I seriously agree with so much of this. I find it funny that everyone thinks the emo scene is all fun of miseryguts who take the scene OMG SRS when we're the ones who start all the jokes ourselves and it's just the twatty scenester element and fake goth clique that bring the doom and gloom to it. In fact, people get pissed if you don't join in the mockery. So yes, jrock fans need a big cup of emo that I will happily provide in exchange for Kyo hitting high notes, Kaoru admitting he is really an emo, Toshiya have awesome head stubble, Die coming out and Shinya wearing a paper bag at all times

I think a lot of the bitchyness has to do with the fact that the majority of VK (well, J-Rock in general, but especially VK) fans are teenagers, and we are not known for our level-headedness. Teenagers are obsessive and flighty practically by definition, so the way fans behave (specifically in terms of how quickly they drop it) doesn't really surprise me =\

Also OH GOD I LIKE THE MUSIC INSTEAD OF THE LOOKS? OR THE LOOKS INSTEAD OF THE MUSIC? OR BOTH?! OBV I AM A HORRIBLE PERSON.
And sorry, but the majority of the popular bands are shitty and people really do only like them because they look good. I mean, if a9 really speaks to you!! then by all means be a fan, but they're not exactly groundbreaking. Personally, I have no issue going, "yeah, I am kind of incredibly attracted to Pon," and then thinking the actual music is crap xD

Yup, as much as I do like a lot of the teenagers in this fandom you're right, and I think things would get better if it became less of a teen-specific fandom. That would also keep people from giving up on the music altogether when they get older. As it is, this fandom is pretty inhospitable to adults, so of course they tend to want nothing to do with it because they don't feel like dealing with the hoards of immature teenagers. It's basically a big downward spiral.

One of the things I absolutely adore about the Tokio Hotel fandom (at least the part of it on LJ) is that quite a bit of the people in it are over 18. Obviously they have their share of screaming teenyboppers, but there's been a lot of people who email MTV about calling them a band for people 13 and under to let them know that they're 26 and they listen to "Scream" every day. (Plus most people have a sense of humor about the band--there's an entire (fairly popular) community devoted to making fun of them.) If the J-Rock fandom were more like that, I'd enjoy it more, I think, instead of avoiding all my fandom communities like the plague xD

It seems like there are plenty of people who like making fun of j-rock, but most of them make such dumb jokes that it makes me want to stab my eyeballs out when I read them. NO, BADLY BUTCHERING 4CHAN MEMES AND USING THEM COMPLETELY OUT OF CONTEXT DOES NOT COUNT AS FUNNY. Fucking hell.

And yeah, Toshiya would make an awesome friend-with-benefits, and I'd totally go out drinking with him and stuff, but I don't think he'd make very good boyfriend material. Let alone husband material. But it's not just that, we're not supposed to be attracted to famous people unless we admire them, too, otherwise it's shallow. Which is hilarious since I bet you that almost none of the guys who have thought Britney Spears or Madonna were hot in the past would admit to being big fans of their music. But that's totally acceptable because men are SUPPOSED to have libidos!

I agree, I've met some really cool people in this fandom, and it's awesome being able to talk to people who share interests with you AND are cool... it's just a real shame that you have to deal with so many idiots to get to those people, isn't it
