I couldn't return to sleep early this morning. Instead of counting sheep, I ruminated about why we address people in ways we do, with additional reference to honorifics. Some are obvious. We address doctors, professors, senators, as Doctor, Professor, Senator. In some countries the same is true of lawyers, accountants, engineers. In the Catholic ( Read more... )

When I was a kid in our parish church religion classes in the 1950s, we were told by the nuns and priests to offer frequent ejaculations to Jesus and to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Yep, ejaculations! LA FESTA DI SAN ROCCO
August 16th is the feast of Saint Rocco. When I used to be a church-goer, nearby Saint Rocco's in Johnston (RI) was my parish. The celebration, complete with a procession during which a statue of the saint is carried, takes place on the Sunday following the 16th. That would be next Sunday.
