With Labour Day falling early this year (September 1), I head back to school earlier than usual (September 2). This means, that two weeks from now, I will be officially in BTS mode.

One of the perks I get as an IB teacher is that periodically, I get to go for conferences, usually in semi-far-away places. The first, in October 2000, took me to Memphis, TN, and a hotel not far from Beale Street. The next, in November 2003, took me to Vancouver, BC for the first time. My parents left 2 1/2 weeks ago for their latest vacation, in which they flew to Chile, spent a few days there, then boarded a ship (a Norwegian ferry boat) for a two-week cruise of Antarctica, including stops on several islands plus the mainland.
