We tried to pour the keel for Shrike over the weekend. We also tried over the Canada Day / Fourth of July weekend, but the little propane stove that we used just couldn't generate enough heat. It turns out that there's a sizeable gaggle of other boatbuilders in the Catskills, including an instructor at the Wooden Boat school. Plans are now afoot for a Kingston, NY messabout to complement the Kingston, ON one that's coming up in early September.

We got back from Palenville (and Boston) after 5:00 AM this morning. I've been dragging my tail all day, not very productively, and I think I'll take a nap before heading over to bcholmes's for gaming.

There's a barn swallow's nest in the eaves near our kitchen door in Palenville. Mama swallow currently has five adorable little baby chicks in the nest, that look like finger-puppet-sized Muppets. They're so adorable....

So far this year, I've bought a temple and sold a nuclear reactor.

Wow, has it really been four years? Tempus fugit....

We celebrated a bit early over the weekend, including all of the ritual high points down to burying the tree, plus two initiations and a handfasting. And we got to spend some time with my favorite nine-year-old niece, who is a total character, pink hair and all.

Long day... drove all the way to Cleveland to meet with my advisor (for about 45 minutes), met another grad student doing some similar work, finally got a chance to poke my head in at the Kang Do Won to say hi to everyone, and stopped by Mom and Dad's on the way home for dinner. Left at 9 AM, got back at 11 PM. Yawn.
