Winry lay as still as she could in her bed, trying not to move as she looked up at Ed with fearful eyes. The entire pregnancy had been hard for her, filled with doubt and the fear that she would lose this one, too

"I know, I know," Ed said quietly, trying to hide the worry in his eyes.
Al looked up at the couple from his place at the end of the bed. He had dark circles under his eyes and looked as though he hadn't slept in weeks. Yet, he was here. "Alright, it's time," he said, smiling weakly up at Winry.
Winry looked down at Al and nodded. She closed her eyes and pushed, over and over, each contraction bleeding into the next until finally, with one last push and a quiet cry, there came the wail of a newborn, very angry baby.
Winry collapsed back against the bed and smiled weakly, tears streaming down her cheeks as she listened to the baby cry.
Winry nodded and covered Ed's hand with hers. "Yeah, I hear it," she whispered, wiping her eyes with her other hand. "It's the best sound I've ever heard...."
"You can babysit every now and then," Winry suggested, reaching up to ruffle his hair. "After I'm ready to let him out of my sight, that is. So you might be waiting for awhile."
"Well, you're you. You have every right to," she whispered, leaning against him and closing her eyes. "Anyway, I'm tired, and I don't want to drop him."
Madeline smiled and opened the door, then beamed over at her parents as she came closer to the bed. "Hi," she said shyly, craning her neck to see the baby. "How do you feel, Mom?"
Winry smiled at her daughter and patted the bed. "I'm fine, honey. A little tired, but fine. Would you like to hold your knew baby brother?"
"But I want to help. Besides, Rosie always said that if you were the one cooking we should just skip the meal and sneak downstairs for food after you went to bed. Cause it's better for our health." Madeline said, staring down at Alphonse.
Winry bit her lip to keep from laughing at that and patted Ed's arm. "It'll be alright if she helps a little."
"Hey, I learned to cook pretty well," Ed shot back. At that, Alphonse started fussing in Nicolas' arms, prompting the boy to look up at his mother helplessly.
