Yeah, I just posted a little while ago after a long stint of not much, but I just got the news that my brother's baby brat is not hiding in his mother's stomach any more.

I don't know which of them picked the name, but I think it's an awesome name for a kid, and I can't wait to corrupt the kid eagerly look forward to seeing how he grows up.

Well, my parents have come home again from Melbourne.  Got home yesterday afternoon.

Today at church I was asked "Glad to have your parents home again?" and "So your parents are back, did you miss them?"  My immediate response to both of these questions, without having to even think about it, was a firm and resounding "No."

I'm really only taking this moment to say: women have been having babies for longer than ANY doctor spent in medical school.

Okay, I'm taking a course at uni called "Sociology of Reproduction", and there I am exposed to all the horrors of the biological processes involved in reproduction.  The lecturers are very good and and do an excellent job of keeping the horrific parts from being scarring.

All the same, this subject was further cementing my desire to never have kids.

Yesterday, Dad asked Mum and me to help him in the backyard.  He wanted to chop down a tree that was near the fence, and we were to hold a rope while he was chopping, and pull the tree so it landed in our yard, not the neighbour's.  Mum made the mistake of wrapping the rope around one of her hands.  I'd done a simple twist that it was very easy to ( Read more... )

My sister, my brother-in-law, and my very cute nephew all came down to Hobart from Melbourne a few weeks ago to catch up and to share said nephew's birthday party.  He just turned two.  Very cute sprog.

We just got the news that "Pearl" is due in November.  My nephew is going to be a big brother.

The stereotypical "old woman/grandma" in my head sits in a slightly old-fashioned chair, with a blanket over her knees (either a wool blanket with a checker pattern, or a patch-work quilt), has grey to white curls, glasses perched on her nose, wrinkles on her face, wearing a cardigan that she probably knitted herself, and either skinny and frail or ( Read more... )
