Well, my parents have come home again from Melbourne.  Got home yesterday afternoon.

Today at church I was asked "Glad to have your parents home again?" and "So your parents are back, did you miss them?"  My immediate response to both of these questions, without having to even think about it, was a firm and resounding "No."

Really, I'm not.  A little over two weeks without the things I find annoying about them and now they're back, once again turning on the TV, turning up the volume so it's bugging me when I'm trying to think my way through my writing, and then just walking away and not turning it off.  Annoying.  Turning lights on - and leaving them on - when they aren't needed.  Snoring.  Loud snoring.  Snoring that I can still hear through two closed doors.  Having to have my bedroom door closed so that I don't hear that snoring as loudly and subsequently not getting the warm air of the heater flowing into my room when it beeps on automatically on the cold mornings.  Mum's "Old Person Smell" that follows her around - and her need to explain what she has planned for each day as though it had any impact on what I was doing (it never does unless it's grocery shopping).  Dad telling me to get up and start moving and then immediately taking the bathroom so that to actually do so is no longer a viable option.  Sharing the family car to church and then having to wait around for them to finish talking to everybody before we can go home and I can have food.  Mum buying groceries we don't need, or buying groceries that we do need but in larger quantities than they are needed.

No.  I didn't miss them.  At all.

Still, they're back, and I'm not moving out any time soon, so it's back to putting up with these things that "really are quite minor in the scheme of things" but that I find very annoying anyway.

family, rant
