Another Winter Classic has concluded and another Winter Classic loss for my Flyers.  Spanked by the Bruins 2 years ago, now they give up a 2-0 lead to lose 2-3 to the hated Rangers (and fall further behind in the conference).  It's seriously time to call in the sports shrink before the hole gets deeper.

After a 15-year hiatus, the Winnipeg Jets are back in the NHL and it's a move that's long overdue.  I am a lifelong Flyers fan (entering my 39th year) but thought the Jets should've never left Canada.  My only issue is their new logo.  The jet over a maple leaf.  I wanted them to revive the old logo with the hockey stick as the 'J' in Jets.  The ( Read more... )

Philadelphia Flyers' forward Ian Laperriere was awarded the Masterton Trophy last night for his perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.  'Lappy' (his nickname) suffered a severe concussion and fractured orbital bone while blocking a shot during the 2010 playoffs and missed all of the 2010-2011 campaign.  He has said he's going to try ( Read more... )

As a Flyers fan, I hate the Bruins so I must admit that I hate Boston winning the Stanley Cup last night.  I was rooting for Vancouver but it was not meant to be.  Former Flyer/current Bruin, Mark Recchi has said he's going to retire.  Thank you for all your years in the orange and black, Mark. 

Congratulations to the Vancouver Canucks for making it to their first Stanley Cup Finals since the early '90's.  Too bad my Lightning aren't doing so good, trailing Boston 3-2.

It's really warm here right now and it certainly doesn't feel like hockey season.

I am always saddened to hear that a player (past or present) has passed away.  This week, we lost 28-year-old LW Derek Boogard who was found dead by family members in his apartment.  Following an autopsy, his parents donated his brain to research as he suffered numerous concussions in his career.  Let's hope that something good can come out of ( Read more... )

The Pittsburgh Penguins' Matt Cooke was suspended 4 games for hitting an opposing player from behind.  The punishment fits the 'crime' except when the guilty is a repeat offender.  Last year he elbowed Boston's Savard with a vicious blind-side hit, causing Savard to miss most of the season.  He's now out (possibly for the season) due to a second ( Read more... )
