Philadelphia Flyers' forward Ian Laperriere was awarded the Masterton Trophy last night for his perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. 'Lappy' (his nickname) suffered a severe concussion and fractured orbital bone while blocking a shot during the 2010 playoffs and missed all of the 2010-2011 campaign. He has said he's going to try to come back despite warnings from his doctors that he should never play again. If he doesn't come back, I hope the Flyers/Comcast Sportsnet Philly keep him on as an analyst. He was a breath of fresh air this season. Whatever he decides, I wish him well in his future endeavors.
