One of the other benefits of being British Museum members is that four times a year they open the museum in the evenings just for their members. In addition to having free run of the galleries and exhibits with significantly fewer crowds than the usual day, they also run a pretty good range of talks.

Fairly late last year R and I decided to become "Friends" of the British Museum. We go to see practically all their exhibitions anyway, and when you tallied up all the prices of admission, it was very close to the cost of an annual joint membership. Matthew Bourne's Portrait of Dorian Grey premiered at Fringe in August, where it got a huge bag of very mixed reviews, before heading down here to Sadler's Wells, London's modern dance mecca. The Victoria and Albert Museum has announced today that the Theatre Museum is likely to close for good, after the proposed partnership between the V&A and the Royal Opera House fell through due to funding issues . . .it has been confirmed that the closure, now scheduled for January, will probably be permanent.
