The awful storm they have been telling us about for days still is not here. Now they are saying it is not supposed to start until midnight. I decided I absolutely HAD to have some things from the grocery store today, so I braved the scrum. The parking lot was mobbed, and I had to park way far away from the store. It was also difficult to navigate the aisles. However, they had every single checkout line open, so I only had to wait after one person to check out. When I got back to my car it seemed like it took 5 minutes for the traffic to break up enough so I could back out of my parking place. All in all, it was not too bad for a Saturday morning that was also before a snow storm.
Thursday Michael said we should go buy a cell phone before we go on our trip to Florida. I had heard the guy at the next desk talking about his cheap cell phone deal, so I asked him about it Friday. He said he got his phone at 7-11. So this afternoon we visited Cingular, Verizon, 7-11, and Target to do a little comparison shopping. We are looking for a pay-as-you-go plan with a very cheap phone.
.
Cingular has a phone for $19.99. It is out of stock, but we should check back to see if they got more in a delivery. It costs $25 for 100 minutes, and you have to re-up every 90 days to keep your phone active.
The 7-11 we stopped at had a phone display, but the guy could not open the case, and said they don't actually have phones. There is no customer service there, so you better know what you want.
Verizon's plan had cheap minutes, but you have to pay a monthly fee for whatever plan you have, so it did not seem like pay-as-you-go to us.
Target had 3 different kinds of pay-as-you-go plans. The T-Mobile plan looked pretty good. The phone was $39.99. Lower amounts of minutes cost 33 cents a minute, but if you pay $100 you get 1000 minutes and they last for a year. It said this phone has a sim card, so I think we could use it around the world.
All of the stores were mobbed, and the Berlin Turnpike was bumper to bumper.
