Friday I was
back at the podiatric surgeon to have the dressing changed. It looks like it is healing beautifully -- not a sign of redness. I'm still in the stupid surgical shoe, but at least the dressing is lighter now. No more swelling and I can walk pretty normally. I get the stitches out on Wednesday. There are 7 of them this time, and it is somewhat painful because they are on the toe, but at least it goes pretty quickly.
It has been REALLY hot here lately, and we don't have air conditioning, so I am REALLY looking forward to getting the stitches out. The dressing is hot, and I am not allowed to get the foot wet. It will be wonderful not to have to put a plastic bag on my foot in order to take a shower any more.
This morning I played Italian Air, from the Telemann Suite in A Minor. I had been a little bored while practicing this all week, but it sounded wonderful with the accompaniment this morning. As usual, after the services we practiced my pieces for next week. They had turned the ceiling fans off by this time, and I was drenched! (The fans really helped me to stay reasonably comfortable during the service.) For some reason, I think my flute sounds really, really good in hot weather. I think it has something to do with the air density. Michael and I were having a discussion during lunch, because we were also wondering about the effect of humidity on all this. Is the air more or less dense when the humidity is high? And why would lighter air affect my sound? Is it just easier to get the sound moving? Hmm.
