It's master's paper crunch time here, that, combined with job-hunting, is starting to slowly crush my spirits. To counter that, here's a list of things that made me happy this week:

• The weather was absolutely perfect.
• Yesterday, I ran into a band of roving acappella singers on campus.

 I am done.

Well, not done done, but I just printed my thesis. It is here, sitting next to me in all its 92-page, 27,000+ word glory. It is not perhaps quite a good as The Ideal Thesis, but it is good enough for me.

I think I am broken now.

That much sustained stress is not good for me, especially since thanks to my two readers's incredibly late ( Read more... )

Apparently, I become very amusing when I am under the twin guns of stress and sleep deprivation--or so I am told, since short-term memory formation is one the things my brain tends to toss out as uneccesary. Ne'retheless, I said many things at lunch that Bree assures me were funny.

With my letter from the University of Washington this morning, it is now official--I have been accepted at every graduate school I applied to*. Yay for me! I am not nearly as happy about this as I should be.

( Cut for obnoxious agnsty-ness. )

It really is too bad that it is too late for NaNoWriMo, because it is beginning to look like I might be able to win with just my thesis*.

Case in point: I just passed the 10,000 word mark without reference to a single secondary source (haven't found too many relevant ones), and with only one and a half chapters (out of six) in a state even nearing ( Read more... )

I spent last semester living in Spain, speaking, reading, and thinking in Spanish most of the time (except when I read Jane Austen). While four months back in the States have mostly gotten me out of the habit of accidentally addressing shop clerks and the like in Spanish*, I find myself facing a serious problem when writing my thesis.

It seems that my pile of thesis research has started some sort of minor border dispute with my pile of grad school apps. It is really the only way I can explain how my floor ended up covered in papers when I wasn't looking.

I may have to call in UN peacekeepers if the library books become embroiled in the conflict.

I am proud to report that my thesis seems to be coming together.
