Slash rating:

This fic is one of the more common clichés to be found in the SherlockBBC fandom, the one where Sherlock deduces that he has feelings for John and then works through those feelings with his clinical, scientific thoroughness like they are a case.

Done well it's possible to be distracted from the unoriginality of that particular theme, but this fic fails to capture the imagination enough to do this for several reasons.

Written from Sherlock's point of view, the writer does manage to capture Sherlock's social awkwardness very well, but unfortunately his voice is inconsistent. Often he delivers his dialogue and it's believable (and sometimes amusing), but there are several occasions when it could be any other two dimensional character.

John in particular seems to be very ooc. Unfortunately the writer has not managed to capture John's warmth to counter Sherlock's scientific, often cold approach to life. This is strongly evident in the kiss scene. It may be that it is intended to be humorous, it is after all being described coming from Sherlock's clinical mind, but without John's presence it is bland and unsatisfying!

Throughout the story the writer mentions John's girlfriends then all of a sudden, because Sherlock has reached the conclusion that they are meant to be together, romantically and sexually, he is happy to be kissed by and jumping into bed with Sherlock. There is no evidence up to this point that John really likes Sherlock in that way.

The story itself lurches from one scene to another without any reason for it. It certainly does not move the story or Sherlock's research of his feelings for John forward in any way. For example, during one scene Sherlock has been shot and is in hospital, the explanation for which is hurried, uninteresting and pointless. However, there is much potential in this scene as Sherlock does overhear conversation between John and Lestrade, but this unfortunately, felt like a missed opportunity to at least give some evidence that John does have deeper feelings for Sherlock.

There are several grammar errors/American spellings and usage throughout this fic which with the assistance of a beta and Brit picker would have at least made for a smoother read (the writer does say both were used). As it is, when there is a typo in the first sentence and it is the name of our main character then it is difficult to believe that the writer has taken much care over their work.

It is a shame that more care wasn't taken over the writing of this fic because some of the details and description are very good and there is some nice imagery, however it is not enough, when taking all the other points into consideration to make this a particularly satisfying or engaging read.
