Good get-together for Renegade drinks on Thursday, when
thebiblioholic was over from NY. As well as the usual suspects, RikkiDD from Dresden, Vauxhallcrosser, and
myopicmeringue turned up. I missed the pub quiz and ended up staying at the Stammy all evening - that always seems to happen when Biblio comes over.
Busy few days at work - lots going on that took time to deal with, plus it's the start of the new year and we have all the new students to register at the library. Interesting that everyone was feeling tired - on Thursday, several other Renegades commented on this - maybe the arrival of Autumn has affected all our energy levels. Certainly enjoyed getting a solid night's rest on Friday - I went to bed at 9.30, and slept for 10 hours.
I was recognised from the TV for what will probably be the last time, as a new student who'd been at Queen's, Belfast, remembered seeing us on University Challenge - though we never played their team. Like most neutrals, he had apparently been cheering us against the Oxbridge teams we played.
Yesterday was Rupert's 40th birthday bash, at
Ye White Hart. Had many beers, was amused by the quiz some of his oldest friends put together based on his legendary exploits over the years (this is the man who proclaimed "I have the reflexes of a fighter pilot!" seconds before driving his car into a ditch, and who has never been allowed to forget the time he set fire to his mate Jim). Went back to Iain and Bryony's place, as they were offering hospitality to those of us who'd missed the last trains home. Had several more beers there, then kipped on a spare futon.
Had a cracking breakfast this morning - there's a good butcher's near where they live apparently, and Iain had stocked up on bacon and sausages. Not quite up there with
Kirk's of Wolverhampton, my all-time favourite pork butchers, but pretty damn good Cumberland sausages. Just the thing for that "morning after" breakfast.
Just watched the first of the new series of
Scrapheap Challenge. Team of Apache helicopter pilots just lost to 3 forklift truck drivers. Cracking show. Perfect Sunday tea-time TV. I remember watching an episode a couple of years ago with Anthony and Philip. We briefly wondered if we could put a team in for it, but decided that there was just too much "hands-on" engineering, needed - too much welding, to be honest - for us.
I'm going to make some chicken curry now, then get myself sorted out for work tomorrow. We start legal research classes this week, and I have to get to grips with the new version of the
LexisNexis Butterworths subscription services.
