Happy that England won the Ashes. Shame it came down to bad light again in the end, though. Interesting piece by
Mike Selvey on Saturday, about Spofforth the Demon and the campaigning purpose of that famous "the ashes will be taken to Australia" mock-obituary.
Had training session for part-timers last night. I was doing some of the training. My bit was meant to end relatively early so I could go to the pub, but my boss decided to change the running order and put me on last. Still, we did all get biscuits, strawberries and cream, and some wine. Overtime might have been nice, but...
Anyhow, I got to the Five Bells just in time to play
Settlers of Catan for th efirst time, with
semioticghosts, Wistfuldragon and Vauxhallcrosser. What a brilliant game! I can see why it's considered such a classic. Well-balanced, fun, good mechanics for randomising the board each game, and the "robber" is a great way of letting you hinder other players without it getting personal or negative. And I won, which was nice, thanks to my Grand Ring Road and my wheat-growing and exporting empire.
In other news,
