Yesterday was my last day in the library. I'll be coming in this evening for leaving drinks, but not to work.
I tied off some loose ends, emailed various contacts to let them know I was going and who they should be liaising with in future, and did one last desk shift at lunchtime. Which was great - we have resitters in, and there were lots of enquiries to deal with. Was nice to be helping the students find the information they needed. That's what the job should be about.
Had a handover meeting with my boss and cleared my desk. Deleted all my documents apart from the ones I'd copied to the shared folder, deleted the webcache, broswer history, cookies and passwords on my computer. They'll probably rebuild the PC for whoever gets it next, but no sense being careless. It was at that point that I realised I'll probably never be going back to that office again, even if I'm back at the library for any reason. I put the last few of my personal effects into my bag. Last to go in was my city of Wolverhampton coffee mug, a present from my mum a few years ago and my only work mug in the last eight years to have survived without being chipped or broken. As I put it away I noticed the Wolverhampton motto: "out of darkness cometh light".
After work I met up with present and past colleagues for
privatep32's leaving meal. I was honoured to have been invited to this select gathering - she had only chosen people she considered friends as well as colleagues. We went to
Cotton's in Exmouth Market, where we drank rum cocktails and Carib beer, and enjoyed a tasty spread of West Indian food. Excellent curried goat.
