Went to the pictures yesterday.
Was meeting
wascally_weasel and Bryony for food first. I arrived early and mooched about in a charity shop, scoring Mark Twain's Life on the Mississipi, Serpico, and a really cool anthology of poetry from 1944.
We had an early supper at
Earl's Court Wagamama, then headed off to see
Hot Fuzz.
Which we really enjoyed. It was very funny, and also extremely violent. Huge number of film references, some more obvious than others, and a lot of the enjoyment was watching how, despite its bucolic English setting, the film conformed to the rules of genre as an action thriller. It was pretty well plotted, and the central buddy-buddy relationship was well done.
fantastic cast, too. Lots of cool character actors.
Afterwards, we went to
The Dove, a really good riverside pub, for a few beers and a natter. I managed to drink them out of
Discovery, so had to move on to ESB.
Missed last train home, so had to get bus, but it had been a good evening so I didn't mind.
