Hallo. New member here. You'll probably be hearing a lot from me in the coming months. I will be moving to the Tokyo area in October 2011, and I am in the process of narrowing down a neighborhood where I can begin apartment-hunting. Work will be located in Wako-shi, and after seeing the surrounding area during my visit there, I concluded that the neighborhood is not for me. I think my preference would be to live in greater Tokyo and commute to Wako-shi, and from what I gather, it's best to live in a neighborhood that's on/near the train line you intend to use, to avoid transferring lines? With that being said, it looks like the Tokyo Metro Yurakucho line, Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin line, and the TOBU Tojo line all go directly to Wako-shi station, with the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi line involving only 1 transfer.
So, my question is...are there any neighborhoods on/near those train lines that you can recommend? I am a 30-something male that currently lives in a thriving urban neighborhood in Southern California with a vibrant art, music, and nightlife scene, great selection of eateries, and almost all amenities withing walking distance (Walk Score of 88). It would be fantastic to find something similar in my new home. If push came to shove, though, I would probably insist on having easy access to a music venue (for both touring and local acts) as my top priority. I don't want to sound like a hipster douche, but really hoping to find a more bohemian area to settle in. Any input is much appreciated. Thanks!
