Hi guys, it's me again. :) A couple more questions.
1. Trying to do my research prior to signing up for a job teaching English in Japan, I heard that you really shouldn't accept anything below 250,000 yen per month, as that is minimum wage. Is this true? Are companies that pay less ripping you off, even if the "full time" listed is 30 or less hours a week? The thing is, with the best of my Google-fu skills, I've found that there aren't a lot of entry-level or some-experience jobs out there that pay that much for fresh out of college hopefuls, that additionally will sponsor visas for overseas applicants. At a school I had a phone interview for, I was told the wage tends to be around 220,000 or 230,000 per month, for about 25 to 30 hours of work a week (according to her, it includes preparation times, not just classes).
2. I am hoping (at least, considering) to bring my cat to Japan. I understand the strict regulations qualifications and have already done the microchipping, rabies vaccination, etc. and am doing everything in my power to work things out. A tentative job offer assured me that the company would act as guarantor and I would pick my own apartment - and while I'm aware of the difficulties of finding pet-tolerant apartments, I know there are agencies, at least online, that particularly advertise pet-friendly (ペット可) apartments, so I assume if I make arrangements that being a cat-owner would not be a big deal to the company. To those who have brought pets to Japan, were there any unforeseen difficulties that arose in the transition, or any advice? I'm not talking about the quarantine/vaccinations process.
3. On that note, are pets allowed on the JR trains? If they're in a carrier? I don't remember seeing pets on them while I lived in Japan as a student, but it seems awfully inconvenient when many Japanese people use trains as their primary transportation, and with thoughts of going to the vet, etc., in mind.
Thank you! :)
