Hello! I'm new to the community. I guess i'll start by introducing myself. My name is Tricia (or tae) currently residing in Kauai, Hawaii. I'm 1/4 Japanese and have been to Japan 4 times since spring of 2004. I have been studying Japanese since my senior year of high school as well, so I can read & write pretty well, but I need to work more on speaking.
I went to Osaka, Japan in spring of 2004 on a 10 day homestay with the Higashi-Osaka Rotary Club where we did mostly touristy type things (went to Nara, Osaka Castle, etc.) After my brief visit, my intrest in Japan grew. That summer I was visited by my friend from Moriyama-Shi (Shiga-ken) and she asked me to come live with her and try to find a job. So I took up that opportunity that following winter, packed my bags and moved to Kamishinjo, Osaka to live with my friend. During this time I did some job shadowing at Kinki University (i'm friends with the vice dean there) as well as did some sight seeing and tried my best to indure the cold weather that I have never experienced before. 2 out of the three months I lived with my friend, and one month I got an offer to stay with a host family, I did to gain more experience about Japanese. I eventually got a job at a place called TEN COMPANY LIMITED in Sakaisuji, Osaka where I taught English part time for about 3000¥ per hour. I had a man willing to sponsor me for a visa, but I decided to come back home to further my education.
Winter of 2005 I went up again for 3 weeks and stayed with my friends family that owns an appartment complex in Yaenosato, which worked out nicely because I had my own fully furnished appartment room to myself complete with a kitchen, bathroom, etc. From my previous visit I had made friends with a man who does the English advertisements and voices for Osaka's FM802 (Funky802.com) he decided that I had a decent voice and should try to get a job there. So I had an interview and got my voice recorded at the station.
This past summer I left again on July 25th until August 14th with two of my friends from Kauai. We stayed in Moriyama-Shi for 2 weeks with my friend and then headed up and stayed with another friend in Nagoya for one week. After Nagoya we headed to Tokyo for one night in a hostel so I could attend HIMURO KYOSUKE & GLAY'S live at AJINOMOTO stadium. After that we headed back down to Osaka for our final week staying in a hotel in Umeda where I ended up meeting my now current boyfriend who is from Fukuoka but was in Osaka at the time. I also got to follow up on my interview with FM802 again (more voice recording demos).
So that is my little experience with Japan so far, i'm planning to move up there by next summer if everything works out!
Sorry if this seems so long (^-^;)
よろしくお願いします! Nice to meet you all!
