Now that it's been a day and I'm firmly into the recovery period, I figured I'd do a write-up of what it was like to go into deviated septum surgery (septoplasty). This was my first non-dental surgery and the first time I've been placed under general anaesthetic, so a world full of new and scary experiences for me. Here's what happened.

The big news of yesterday, at least from an emotional and physical wellbeing standpoint, was a visit to the dentist. This was a follow-up appointment ("second scale") from the one last month where it was discovered that I had so much tartar it was approaching "serious" levels. Doctor's appointment this morning. I'm never good at doctor's appointments where I have to fast for blood tests (I hate needles), but it was overdue. Usually I do my blood tests at my GP's, but they cost about $400 and given that I'm now unemployed, I figured I'd ask him if he could offer me a discount. Way #1: Had a dentist appointment this morning. Don't really like dentist appointments. Like them even less when I have to wake up early on what's supposed to be my late-shift day to go to them. Yes, today was a visit to everyone's favourite health care provider, the dentist. My mouth is in pain now. Hugs are welcome.

Today I went to see my doctor for my annual check-up. Part of this involves sticking a needle into my arm and taking the blood which, by all rights, should be inside my body and pulling it out of my body. I don't like needles. Haven't since I was 10.
