CIVILIAN LIFE:

Q1. Name: Kat | kittehkat

Q2. How did you find out about Elite of the Fleet?

rotae had mentioned she was thinking about creating a replacement for hogwarts_elite that would fill the gap of one of our more active online communities as it closed. I think the idea first surfaced as a theoretical tweet. Anyway, I was thrilled and on-board right away -- I love ( Read more... )

hidden in my rough exterior - this so puts me in mind of what I wrote for the Exploratory Sciences track: that they are often compassionate individuals who come across as slightly aloof due to their reservations and their preference to work alone.

Your strengths really bring the Exploratory decision home for me: your upfront honesty and your realistic, analytical perspective would fit in well there. I also got the impression that you don't readily suffer fools, which is understandable but potentially dangerous in diplomatic or even tactical positions.

I also think it's interesting that you noted imprecision as a reason why translation errors are your greatest fear: not just that you'd be misunderstood, but that words etc could be missed - you have a strong sense of detail, and the impression that those details are damn important so everyone else needs to hear them too.

But most of all I loved the "screw talking to people, I'm here to do my damn job even if I'm stranded" answer to Q16. Exploratory, until the end of time. <3

Very true on all accounts! There is probably a reason I'm never asked to be our front desk/greeter in our office and instead work on my own projects. xD

I admit, I'm a little obsessive about detail. I'm kind of guilty of arguing with an, 'okay, sure, I see the big picture, but if we zoom in...'

Well... I've never been in a cosplaying opportunity because my costumes have never been cosplayable -and- in the right setting. The closest I ever got was wearing a full Max-suit (sewn by a friend!) for the premiere of Where the Wild Things Are, but even then you have to be out-of-character lest you freak out the general public. Otherwise, it's just costumes for my benefit/Hallowe'en. I'm kind of a dork. :)

Well, Kat, you definitely are a difficult one! :/

I think you have the mind of an Exploratory Sciences Officer, but you have the drive and instincts of a Tactical Officer.

I get the feeling from this app (and you in general as I can't separate what I know of you from this), that things are very black and white with you.

You say that "right is right and wrong is wrong"... that there is no room for lying (truth = right, lying = wrong, even when it hurts someone)... you don't tolerate injustice and come to people's defence.

I reread our psych profiles for both these tracks and you really do straddle the middle of them! Your social interaction is Tactical, but your thought process is Exploratory Sciences.

Honestly I think what tipped me over to Tactical was your answer to question 16:

As a member of Starfleet, my duty to explore, document, and process the new world I've come across would take front seat. Not because you WANT to study the planet, not for your own enjoyment, but because it is your DUTY to do so ( ... )

This is so, so true. Sometimes it's helpful, or a good thing, and sometimes it hurts others. I try to see the grey, and appreciate it, but when I have to make a decision, I boil it down to the black and white so I can make the best decision possible.

It's so funny to me that I'm between these tracks for the psychological profiling bit. I feel this application is really me, and definitely represents who I am, yet if I followed my usual MB results, ENFP, I'd be in Operations -- the one I feel least fitting for me based on the long explanations Mel has worked out to help enlist (but lol, got my irl degree in one of the areas of Operations, with honors?). It just reminds me of our Skype conversation about the enlistment, and how we could go nearly any way.

Not because you WANT to study the planet, not for your own enjoyment, but because it is your DUTY to do so.
I am destined to be killed, aren't I? lolol

In conclusion: SPOCKBUTT!!!

Wow, you're a tough one.

Although you would probably be successful there, I can't bring myself to put you in Exploratory Sciences. Yes, you absolutely have an analytical, scientific mind, but quite frankly I can't see you being completely fulfilled spending all day in a lab, running tests on soil samples or whatnot. You could possibly make a good Engineer--it's a more creative kind of science and you keep cool in crisis situations, but Engineers tend to see the engines as their babies, and I don't see you having that kind of passionate attachment to a piece of machinery.

The fact is, you're too extroverted to work in a typical geeky science position. You need to be around people. It's apparent right up front in the reasons you give for why you want to join: Social interaction! The collective nerdgasms...The sense of community. BAM!

So that's why I'm disagreeing with my colleagues and recommending you for enlistment in the Medical track, in a position as a Counselor or Psychiatrist. This would combine your analytical skills and ( ... )

At first I was going to argue, because I hate hearing people whine about situations they got themselves in, but then I thought about it, and I actually really love hearing people tell me stuff about themselves so I can privately judge them.

And I can't coherently respond to this part, because you nailed me on the head with this bit: to know things about someone that they don't even see in themselves.

From what I've seen, while you may be quick to judge on the inside, on the outside you strive to be fair and not allow your personal opinions to color your truthful analysis.
Two-fold of awesome points. #1... well, you know why I would find this particularly funny. And #2, I really do try to live that way and make the most affair assessment possible. Just. YOU SEE THROUGH ME. STOP IT. lol And yes, nothing would be more satisfying than seeing Kirk cry tears of unfathomable sadness! LOL JK JKI wasn't too sure I'd be good for Medical because I'm not a nice person, and I'm not a patient one, and I never thought I'd be a good counselor on ( ... )

At first, I thought Ops because of the consistent thread of honesty and communication that runs through this, but after a second read-over with my trusty highlighter in hand, I found that what I was marking most often as the talking points actually wasn't based in that. Where an Ops candidate would be more likely to emphasize working together and collaborating no matter the outcome, you're very focused on the outcome itself. Your leadership answer points to that as well as your reasons for disliking Kirk - his style of command leaves the results and consequences of his actions with too much chance for chaos and upheaval.

Your top five strengths mention prediction and analysis, and your weaknesses point to a quick mental process. While that can be difficult to mesh into personal interaction, when it's combined with analytical strengths, it's an indicator of someone who can think rapidly and who can come up with innovative solutions even under high pressure. Overall, I'd recommend Tactics. Not based in fighting and warfare, but in ( ... )
