And now for something happier. Something which has really been doing a lot to keep me positive over the past few weeks, in the face of the general downers of medical issues and job applications, even though it's also been making me rather busy.
Dorkbot-sea, the tech-art group for which I do regular webmonkeying and sporadic organising, is putting together an art show. It's been in the works for over a year, but now that the show is imminent I'm getting really excited about it. Over the past month we've had meetings to jury submissions, work out arrangements for the opening night party, figure out where in the venue to place each piece and how to rig them, and this evening we had a general meeting to figure out what still needs to be done and who'll take care of it. At each of these stages it's become more apparent quite how good this show will be, and I've become more excited about it and more proud to be involved.
I'm one of only two organisers who hasn't also submitted a piece, but I like to think I've gone some way to making up for that over the past couple of weeks by putting together the
website. Credit where it's due-the graphic design was done (pro bono) by Leo Spizziri of
Dasein Studio, so the "Strange Things" and person-made-of-power-cord images are his work and I've followed his colour selections and overall look-but I'm pretty proud of my work here too. I also still have a little work to do, but I think it's ready for public consumption now, and that's what I've been waiting for.
