We had leftover bread and tomatoes and are lucky enough to have Trader Joe's nearby that sells basil plants for $3... so we had panzanella for dinner. (I'm eating wheat again until my blood test at the beginning of August). That taste is pure summer to me. We took a much needed respite to parts north for Independance Day. I've never had to work harder to make myself just BE but it was definitely a good thing to just let go. We went to the zoo today-- part fun family outing (and with friends, too: Rosie and Jaden and her friend Sheri), part celebration of sun and a long weekend, and part opportunity to use our new lens. Oh, and a big bowl of chocolate ice cream. Big for me, at least, since I normally only eat one scoop. My birthday week has officially begun.

Gus' aunt came into town this weekend; she lives up at Twin Lakes, near Coeur d'Alene, in the family cabin. We were thrilled to get a chance to hang out with her.
