My First Meet-up Coordinate

Feb 19, 2014 21:52

Hello all! I will be going to my first lolita meet-up with the Southern Ontario Lolita community on Sunday... It will be my first time meeting other Lolita's since I'm from a sort of rural community. I'm trying to put together a decent and simple coord so they do not think I'm an "ita noob" (even though I AM a noob... But shhhh). It's a very casual ( Read more... )

That's a super cute skirt! Where does it come from?
I'm not crazy about the top, but for a more casual meet it seems like a good pick, especially if you're new to lolita and don't have a more lolita-specific blouse.
Good luck on your first meet-up! The only etiquette tip I have is that at a meet-up it's good to mostly talk about things that everyone can talk about. Of course you can talk about more specific things, too, but it's more fun to include everyone most of the time.

Thanks! Very helpful advice ^__^
The skirt is from here: http://toxicity.storenvy.com/ :)
You are right about the blouse, it isn't very lolita-specific but I don't have a blouse that would be better (and the alternative would be to wear my Bodyline balloon bears Op and I feel like that's a bit too much...). I'm happy I did okay though :)

I am not sure about your particular group of Lolita friends but a casual cafe doesn't mean the girls will be dressing casual. My friends and I always meet at casual cafes or restaurants but we dress in full Lolita. You might want to double check (if you haven't already) if casual meet = casual outfits because you may end up feeling under-dressed. There's really no such thing as over-dressed in Lolita so better to err on the side of "too much", IMHO ( ... )

FYI, Bodyline is totally fine! Some of the girls in our comm have sizable brand wardrobes, but bear in mind when you see / hear about that, that they've also been into the fashion for several years now and have built up those collections slowly over time. Wearing brand is definitely NOT required. Some of our most popular girls wear Bodyline, off-brand and handmade items (well-done handmade tends to earn a fair amount of respect, in fact). We're all at different places in our lives - a lot of people are students, but some of us have careers already, and we have a pretty wide range of incomes - but there's no judging people because of that.

Then I will probably wear my bodyline OP to the next meetup :)

I think your coord is cute! Do you have a hairbow to go with it? I think black would be best, as it would tie in your shoes, but white would also be good.

As for advice, I would say try to be friendly and confident. Most people will probably be a little nervous or uncomfortable as well.

I bought a yellow bow to go with it but it sadly wont arrive in time... I can probably find a black bow somewhere in my area though :)

I was actually wondering if your bow had arrived yet. I do apologize I wasn't able to get it to you sooner.

That aside I think the outfit you have picked out is really cute. I really love that skirt. <3

I think you have a cute, basic coord there. It's definitely casual but it does work. Just make sure you have something to put on your head to tie the outfit together :)

Your outfit is very cute! I love the skirt and matching bracelets c: It is very casual as previously stated but that is what you're going for after all. I think it's fine for the meet. I'm curious as to why you seem so averse to bodyline though? Especially considering that Balloon Bears is one of their best series. If the "loudness" is what bothers you most, you can always dress it down by wearing a solid cardigan over it and your solid socks/shoes. If it's about the opinions of others about the brand, from my personal experience, as long as you coordinate it decently nobody will say anything bad. So many people wear bodyline, including myself, and yeah some pieces are bad but they have a lot of good pieces too. Up to you in the end though ( ... )

I'm definitely not against wearing bodyline! I love my dress... I just feel like I don't have the right colour shoes to coordinate it with, or the right colour petti. The petti I bought is dark and the OP is all lighter colours so I'm worried it may show through.

Thank you, I will try to have as much fun and be as polite as I can! A butterfly exhibit sounds like a cool place for a meetup... :)
