My First Meet-up Coordinate

Feb 19, 2014 21:52

Hello all! I will be going to my first lolita meet-up with the Southern Ontario Lolita community on Sunday... It will be my first time meeting other Lolita's since I'm from a sort of rural community. I'm trying to put together a decent and simple coord so they do not think I'm an "ita noob" (even though I AM a noob... But shhhh). It's a very casual ( Read more... )

There's a lot here to reply to so I'm going to try to do it as efficiently as possible haha (aka point form)

- when I said it's a "very casual cafe meet" I meant that the meet-up dress code is casual, people who are attending are not expected to be in full lolita if they cannot manage full lolita or simply just do not feel like wearing it. Street clothes are allowed if they are inspired by a Japanese style, no specification on any particular style.
-I do have a petti with enough poof to give the skirt good shape, it just isn't pictured because I never see someone picture their pettis unless they are selling them. I don't know if it's etiquette or people just like to pretend their skirts float on their own (which would be nice, honestly).
-I wasn't aware that an outfit had to fit perfectly into a particular sub-style within the style for it to be considered to be proper lolita... I did quite a bit of studying and I never heard that anywhere but I mean if that is legitimate I will keep it in mind for the next time I buy clothing. I also never heard that sweet lolita HAD to mean cupcake shape... But again, I will keep that in mind. I'm not sure what style the skirt is meant to be but I enjoyed it's colour scheme and interesting print so I bought it.
-I don't know what my community's opinion is on Bodyline as I haven't spoken with any of them on the subject. I'm a bit scared to risk it, especially with risking looking too over the top as well, when there is a chance people will be turning up who won't even be in lolita. I really don't want to stand out, especially in Bodyline. I may be overthinking this, I have a tendency to do that so... Idk.
-the meet is in 4 days, I don't really have enough time to buy and have shipped new items (especially since I live in canada and it takes a week to ship a hairbow) to make my outfit 'lolita-inspired'. Most of what I have here I had to salvage on my own from wild Canadian moose so I did my best. I do have items being shipped but they won't arrive in time. Hopefully I will be better dressed for my next meet-up...
-I don't know what else to say so... Idk, I guess I'm just nervous? xD

Thank you for your opinion, and I love a lot of the outfit suggestions :) I can't really change it at this point but like I've said, I will remember everything you stated next time.

If you have any etiquette tips or stories from any of your meet ups you think a noob should hear, that would be nice :)

FYI, Bodyline is totally fine! Some of the girls in our comm have sizable brand wardrobes, but bear in mind when you see / hear about that, that they've also been into the fashion for several years now and have built up those collections slowly over time. Wearing brand is definitely NOT required. Some of our most popular girls wear Bodyline, off-brand and handmade items (well-done handmade tends to earn a fair amount of respect, in fact). We're all at different places in our lives - a lot of people are students, but some of us have careers already, and we have a pretty wide range of incomes - but there's no judging people because of that.

Then I will probably wear my bodyline OP to the next meetup :)

Please ignore her.
Winter is rather infamous round here for her open dislike of BL and rather strict definition of what makes something Lolita or not.

Your skirt is lovely and will work totally fine for a Lolita cord. Yes, the print/colours are different from the norm but I'd say that is a good thing :) (actually thinking about it, it reminds me of some of the perfume bottle brand prints.) Besides the length and shape are right and that is the major thing that defines a Lolita outfit from a non-Lolita one. Not everything has to have cakes/bears/pink to work with this fashion. Your cord looks great

And no you don't have to photograph your petti! :)
