My First Meet-up Coordinate

Feb 19, 2014 21:52

Hello all! I will be going to my first lolita meet-up with the Southern Ontario Lolita community on Sunday... It will be my first time meeting other Lolita's since I'm from a sort of rural community. I'm trying to put together a decent and simple coord so they do not think I'm an "ita noob" (even though I AM a noob... But shhhh). It's a very casual ( Read more... )

I am not sure about your particular group of Lolita friends but a casual cafe doesn't mean the girls will be dressing casual. My friends and I always meet at casual cafes or restaurants but we dress in full Lolita. You might want to double check (if you haven't already) if casual meet = casual outfits because you may end up feeling under-dressed. There's really no such thing as over-dressed in Lolita so better to err on the side of "too much", IMHO ( ... )

FYI, Bodyline is totally fine! Some of the girls in our comm have sizable brand wardrobes, but bear in mind when you see / hear about that, that they've also been into the fashion for several years now and have built up those collections slowly over time. Wearing brand is definitely NOT required. Some of our most popular girls wear Bodyline, off-brand and handmade items (well-done handmade tends to earn a fair amount of respect, in fact). We're all at different places in our lives - a lot of people are students, but some of us have careers already, and we have a pretty wide range of incomes - but there's no judging people because of that.

Please ignore her.
Winter is rather infamous round here for her open dislike of BL and rather strict definition of what makes something Lolita or not.

Your skirt is lovely and will work totally fine for a Lolita cord. Yes, the print/colours are different from the norm but I'd say that is a good thing :) (actually thinking about it, it reminds me of some of the perfume bottle brand prints.) Besides the length and shape are right and that is the major thing that defines a Lolita outfit from a non-Lolita one. Not everything has to have cakes/bears/pink to work with this fashion. Your cord looks great

And no you don't have to photograph your petti! :)

Regarding print and the colours; it really reminded me of Angelic Pretty's Dream Sky (purple/lavender and stars) so I wouldn't strictly say it's not lolita. It might be a little easier to coord it in another fashion, but we don't know if brands might release even more printals like this. I think if we asked a 2007-lolita if chocolate prints would be lolita, they might have told us otherwise, but the style changed.

As long as she manages to fit the aesthetic it's lolita, casual or full-out depending on the accessoires. I think these golden clip-on stars would be perfect.

"The skirt will never be Lolita"

Says who? You? Who made you the absolute authority on what is and isn't lolita?

OP, ignore her. The skirt looks perfectly fine to use in a lolita coord. It's adorable!

That's sort of what I've been thinking, but it seems to be one of those endless debates...
