The latest from the 85024....

How did it get to be the end of November already? Thanksgiving has come and gone, and I didn't eat like a wild buffalo this year. In a couple of days, I'll begin the countdown to the final year of my 30's. When did I become an adult?

General happenings in the Garcia household include Alex's stunning development. He is not a regular child. He is far more intelligent than others in his age group at his daycare. His ability to speak in complete sentences, while his other classmates can't even identify some of the basic colors is quite fabulous.

Our little Brianna, now 6 1/2 months old has her first two teeth coming in. She hasn't said her first word yet, but she is rather chatty from time to time. Shannon and I are two very lucky parents.

Shannon's birthday was two weeks ago. I got her a few little things, including a clock with a digital thermometer reading, a nice 8X10 frame to house Alex and Brianna's first school portrait together, the latest Ben Folds cd, and the just released Belle & Sebastian 2 cd set of BBC recordings. It's pretty good, and I like their version of The Beatles' "Here Comes The Sun."

Shannon's parents bought her a nice brand new Compaq Presario laptop. I am using it right now for the first time to write this entry. The kids are watching Jurassic Park II on tv. She picked up a wireless router with the money my parents sent her, so she's been enjoying the mobility. I've been using our primary work station as a command center for ripping all of our cds for our iPods. If you've ever used Wave Pad, let me know if you're aware of another program that's even better. It works well for my use, but I'm always looking for something that rips discs even faster.

Earlier today, I dragged out Shannon's old acoustic guitar. We thought it didn't have any strings but it turns out we were wrong. I was planning on taking it to a local music shoppe, and get it re-strung and tuned up. It turns out all it needed was a good tuning. Alex and I went for a short drive to the nearest place, and they tuned it for free. How nice is that? We were strumming it after I got back, but it turns out that the few riffs I once knew have gone away. I would like for both Shannon and I to take lessons.

Ah, I do a love a good four-day weekend.

family, gift-giving, holidays
