most of what you said about christians is quite false according to the bible. so anyone who does believe that is reading a completely different book. that quote actually isnt clever at all, whether its being read by a christian or not, unless you've been quite uninformed to what christian belief is based off of.
that quote is stupid the whole frozen yogurt thing is easily proven incorrect it is very well known that faith isnt something that can be proven the concept of creation and the beginning of life is something that we cannot wrap our minds around
the quote sounded dumb that person should be shat on
Let's say I have faith that frozen yogurt makes me invisible.
You say no, look at science. Science says that it's not possible.
You have faith that God created man right alongside monkeys, fish, single-celled organisms and the like.
I say no, look at science. Science says that it's not possible. (carbon dating and more and more DNA tests are beginning to show more and more links between chimpanzees and humans, which I don't think is a coincidence. God didn't decide to recycle some genes to use in both mammals)
So we both have the same viewpoints, yet for some reason science is completely valid in telling me that my TCBY won't turn me invisible. But when I say that science created man, and has some pretty fucking good evidence to prove it, I am immediately shot down.
Wrap your mind around the idea of the Big Bang. See, science has creationism shit like that too, that you cannot wrap your mind around.
something did not come from nothing and that is the major flaw in any scientific idea of creation or any religious idea of creation
that is why when you base your opinions on something supernatural or something that is unknown to us solely on what can be proven it is fairly closed minded
have you ever considered the fact that either something had to have come from nothing or something was always there? neither of those two concepts are familiar to this world
if there is a God that created all of us where did God come from? who created God? or how did he come about? was he always there?
and what about dust and all of that weird shit? where did it all come from? something started it all.. and where did that matter come from?
and also.. it is evident to the human eye that when you eat frozen yogurt you are not invisible. when eating frozen yogurt one can plainly see that you are still visible.
faith is a very different thing because although some might say that a scientific explanation is more reasonable, it is still flawed and not entirely proven.. it is just that- an explanation.
the things that stuck out to me. is christians, at least the one's i know, dont believe God (who i assume the "invisible diety" is reffering to) actually wrote the bible. i believe people who had encounters with him in some way wrote it and its certainly not by any means a perfect document. and i certainly don't believe that God punishes people, and nowhere in the new testament does it say that. and most christinas would need some evidence. i wouldnt believe anything if the bible did not exsist and certain historical events that further prove certain things in the bible. many historians use the bible as a historical document. many stories in it have been proved true. not saying its enough proof for everything, but there isnt 100% proof to anything out there for you to tell me evolution true. plus, there's nothing that says if evolution were true that god couldn't have created it. now i dont necessarily believe it, but there are just so many possibilities and uncertainties

I noticed the thing about god writing the bible, and I would have changed it, but schwhatever. I just thought it was an interesting quote, without really getting too deep into the actual context therein. my livejournal entries as of late haven't really been up to par with the rest, so I figured I would start a nice discussion in here, as I have been known to do in the past

Yeah, who's to say that when God created Adam and Eve that the didn't have significantly more body hair than we do know and walk more hunched over with their knuckles scraping the ground? Who's to say that all the animals Adam was charged with naming were in fact herds of stegosauruses instead of cows or sheep like we imagine? That's my take on it anyway...Adam and Eve were formed more like early primates than like the humans we know today and the whole business of how we came to be how we are was left out by our generous biblical authors
( ... )
I think you're missing my point..I was saying that maybe Adam and Eve weren't as human-like as we tend to imagine, which may account for their presence in the age of the dinosaurs. :-p

I still think they're hogwash, and I stick to the theory of evolution, but I know the other side's arguments.
I was raised catholic for the first 18 years of my life.
