We got back late last night. This morning we are getting acclimated to our home and home life again.
It's really something how quickly we adapt to wherever we are. Within the first day at Laurie's house, we were quickly adapting and soon thought of it as our home. Now we are home and last night it seemed kind of strange and unfamiliar to me, but this morning I am becoming more familiarized and thinking this is my home now. And, when we were on the road last night (and in the dark--I'm sure that had something to do with it, also), I commented to Pete that I felt like we didn't belong anywhere, kind of disjointed or in limbo.
I loved my visit with Laurie, I enjoyed just spending time with her in a relaxed and un-rushed state, no responsibilities, no phone calls to answer or make, no job, . . . it really felt good. But, it is also good to be home, back in our own bed, own bathroom, and warmer weather. I wore long pants and a jacket or sweatshirt every day there. I love my shorts and tee shirts. They had the heater on in the house most of the time, and I'm not a big fan of the dry heat. Down here if it gets cold, we just dress warmer.
I'm sure I got some nice pictures, but I think over 3/4s of them were what I call "back seat photos." I started that series years ago where I take pictures from the car, either back or front seat, wherever I happen to be sitting at the time, as someone else is driving. I used to be bored BC, (before camera), whenever we drove places, but now as long as I have a camera at hand, I am never bored. I spent so much time taking pictures as we were whizzing down the road anywhere from 30 to 70+mph. It's surprising how well they turn out and I love later seeing some of what I've gotten. Many times I don't even look through the viewfinder, I just point the camera where I think there is something interesting. I do love obscure little scenes and don't mind the blur, etc. at all. Since I had no way to view them up there (except the tiny camera screen), I am excited to start going through them now and see what all I got.
This is the first one I came across this morning on the computer screen .... as we were leaving town heading north on 41 just past Experimental Farm Road about 6:30 a.m. When I first saw it, I wasn't sure what or when I had even taken it ~~ I had already forgotten the beginning of our trip and leaving town! The sun was just coming up and we really hadn't picked up much speed yet. I was pointing my camera at the sunrise as we were coming to a little clearing in the trees and I never noticed what all was in the rest of the picture. I straightened it, cropped it, then lightened it up a bit so I could see what all was in the foreground -- and this is what I got. I love it!
And here is the first picture I took this morning . . . Pete out in the back yard blowing leaves.
Yep, we're definitely home!
We unpacked and put everything away last night. Our own beds felt so good and we slept like "the dead" without waking up even once during the night until 8:30 this morning! Got up and made coffee, Pete went to the store for milk and a few other things, and now it's back to business as usual. I'm mostly doing laundry today, beginning to look at the pictures I got and just puttering around. I took four cameras, but only used my short lens and infrared camera.
