A wet and busy last few days . . .

It has rained on and off here for the last three days. Sometimes very heavy for long periods of time, some little shorties, and several good soaking rains. OK, now time for a few dry days, please.

We went to a big birthday party on Saturday for one of the friends in our birthday group who turned 60. I knew Susan really liked white birds, so I gave her a matted print of two white egrets.

We went down by the river to Yachtsea Grill and had a really good time and nice meal. I had maple crusted salmon cooked on a cedar plank. I love salmon, but have never had it fixed this way before. It was so delicious! I have a cedar plank here, but have never used it before. I guess it’s time to give it a try.

On Sunday we had a cookout here for family and friends. I told people to arrive around 3:00 for drinks and appetizers then we’d start cooking about 5:00. At 2:55, it started pouring hard and I figured everyone would be a little late, and they were. It finally stopped raining about 3:30. I made a big pitcher of homemade margaritas-tripled the recipe, and every last drop was gone by the end of the night. Sweet, very fruity and just enough heat, they went down so smoothly, it was hard to just sip them. ML, you would have loved them. This is the first time I’d made this, but since it was so well liked, I will make it again for sure.

On Monday we went to see the son of a good friend who is in the hospital. When we got home, Pete was checking on something in my shed and found that two big cartons of cardboard mailing boxes I had ordered last year (100 of them!) had been invaded by something horrible. Either roaches, termites, ants, or maybe a combo of all three. Eggs and black yuck everywhere! Anyway, they were totally ruined and so we had to carefully get them out of the shed with as little disturbance as possible by wheelbarrow (four loads) over to the fire pit and we burned them all. That took almost three hours because you couldn’t compact them together or they wouldn’t burn. The boxes were the large size for the 16x20 prints, so what a waste that was.

Today was the coolest it’s been here in a long time and finally after the rain stopped late this afternoon it was very pleasant and breezy. Near sundown it had cleared and I headed out in the car. I had no more than pulled out of the driveway and it started raining again, pretty hard. I drove to several places, never got out of my car and took some window shots. Only one picture even turned out, so it wasn’t a total bust.

When I was only three blocks from home I saw a bright orange/yellowy colored light on top of an entrance gate. I stopped right in the middle of the road and snapped one picture. I wanted to take more, but a car was coming behind me and there was nowhere to pull off. The light seemed to illuminate just enough for a nice effect. The fence was covered with bright hot pink bougainvillea. If you look closely, you can even see some of the rain drops, too.

I was asked if I could put together some sort of a slide show of all the artist’s work in the gallery so we can use it in an ad. I’ve never done anything like this before, so I don’t know exactly what I’m doing, but I plan on looking on line at slide shows and see what I can find.

Tomorrow I am getting up early for a change. (This will be another chance to try and break this late night owl business of going to bed between 2:00 & 3:00.) Priscilla and I are going to Neal Preserve (if it’s not raining). We’ll probably end up having our favorite Thai green curry for lunch.

Wednesday is gallery meeting and Friday hair cut.

I sold all but one of the fairies, so I need to make more. I’ve got a few new photos to get printed, too. That will keep me busy for the week, I’m sure.
