Reflections Before Sleep

May 30, 2009 23:33

There have been moments this week that definitely did not go as planned.  Tasks that seemed small became larger, or people had stuff that came up that kept them from participating as fully as they wanted to.  And there have been moments --three or four of them--when I have walked along the ragged edge of losing my shit and have managed to come back from the brink without bursting into tears, yelling at any one, or breaking anything.   Overall, however, people have entered into my crazy plans with gusto and glee, volunteering their time, energy, kitchens, skills, materials, and labor--lots and lots of labor.  Perhaps most impressive to me, however, is the amount of cheerful zen that has surrounded me throughout it all.

This is, perforce, a partial list, but I want now to make a public thank you to the following people, in no particular order, just as I think of them:
--redheadedmuse and Rio, who are investing their energy and joy into the ceremony
--cinnabarine for gallantly chopping millions of vegetables, allowing her kitchen to be invaded by strangers, and being cheerful about the whole thing.
--
pterra_dactyl ,
daniel_t_miles , Shana, Aaron,
luke_campagnola , ellybug , Dennis, and
keturn , for helping with the cooking, being funny and laid-back, and folding approximately a million pieces of origami.  Anything I have asked for, they have done.  I cannot imagine this week without them, or my life without them.
--ohmyqueen , my mother, for her relentless support

queen_of_wands and
motive_nuance for being present and helpful while they prep for a big move and big life changes
--tornadogrrrl gets mad mad props for all the sewing ever.  What a solid rock for me this week!
-- Martin, for his infectious enthusiasm and his mad cooking coordination.
-- bbbsg and prosicated for ZOMG, all the amazing amazing cupcakes.  I WILL continue to have foodgasms over just the memory of them, especially the honey lavender fig ones with goat cheese frosting.
--My mother-in-law, Niru, for getting all the wedding clothes and bringing them from India
--barodar for being his awesome self, giving people massages, and taking everything calmly in stride.  He and
jade_lennox also get mad props for organizing Aatish's wedding party
cos for organzing carpooling and the out-of-towners
--beah for stage-managing
--asciikitty for the cashmere
--desiringsubject for the extra cakes, so everyone can have dessert tomorrow
--HennaJ for the henna.  Pictures soon, I promiise
--formlesspassion for the cake-topper
--coraline , for the bracelets and the music

nacht_musik for the music and for his unshakeable calm
dancingwolfgrrl for the music and for teaching me the phrase "like whoa"
--My Aunt Kristin, and Tish's Aunt Shalini for cleaning my house again after rehearsal dinner
orbitalmechanic for the rhubarb and the mint
--IMPORTANT  ETA: fuzzbean , for the hard logisticating work of planning the menu for the rehearsal dinner, getting together the recipes for us, and figuring out what the shopping needed to look like.  Even though she couldn't be here to celebrate with us I'm very grateful for the legwork she put in ahead of time
--Those who are celebrating with us despite difficulties in their own lives, or the lives of their families
--Everyone who is hosting my out-of-town guests

That is all I can think of now, but there are more, I know.  Tomorrow is the wedding, finally, the last bit of festivity, and after it my life will be subtly different, not just because I will be wed to the Man of My Dreams, but because I will forever know what it was like to have this week of love in so many of its forms.

gratitude, family, love, friends, wedding, relationships
