Today It Begins

May 25, 2009 09:37

Yesterday was the one-week mark, but I had a birthday party for a very important five-year-old to go to, and a very important three-year-old as well, and that was so clearly more vital than anything going on with me that although there was talk about the wedding, and doing things about the wedding, it mostly felt like the calm before the storm.

Today it feels real, near, because today my loved ones start arriving from out of town and the real bustle of preparation will begin.  Martin and Megan (tornadogrrrl ) get in this afternoon, and I get to hug them for the first time after their year of travels.  Shana, who I have known since I was six years old, arrives this evening with her sweetheart.  Tomorrow,
daniel_t_miles and
pterra_dactyl turn up, as does my Most Beloved Mother.  So the next few days are awhirl with getting people settled, getting last alterations done to clothes, getting last craft projects done, last drafts of vows and ceremonies, cooking, laughing, and cuddling.

I know there will be more surprises on the way, like the wedding party clothes that were a different set of colors than expected --still gorgeous, and very wonderful, but I think I should get full points for not having a Bridal Meltdown when they turned out to be mango yellow and maroon instead of sage green, and olive instead of peacock blue.  Everyone is willing to be gracefully and cheerfully adaptable though, about clothes, food, schedules, duties, and so while I fully expect to be even more tired of logisticating by this time next week, I also expect to be glowingly, radiantly, happily married, and even more grateful for the bounty of my life and my community.

community, funny, friends, wedding
