I'm in a bad mood with Microsoft today, having lost the most productive parts of yesterday to rescuing my home PC from an automatic Windows update that not only irretrievably corrupted the registry so it wouldn't boot, but also brutally interrupted the backup job that I'd left running. In Judith Kerr's Mog books, much read by the young Daffodils, there's a frequent refrain of "Bother that cat!" when she does annoying things before redeeming herself towards the end of the story.

Both the Daffodils, but especially **FIXME, have a thing for abbreviating words at the moment. So, for instance, a peppermint is a "pep", the computer is the "comp", and so on. I've realised that I pick up some of these, but only when they use it a lot. I did experiment with making up my own but they fall flat to blank looks. I'm never quite sure ( Read more... )

Young **TODO is growing fast (2.5), and his pronunciation is regularising at a rate of knots. Which is good, of course, but I shall miss his toddlerisms when they're all gone. Delightfully, he does still say 'chocolate' as 'clocklit'.
