I had a good day on the bank holiday yesterday. At 4.30a.m. I got a text from my brother telling me that my new niece had just been born. (Just over 8 lb in old money, and mother and baby both well.) We're hoping that they and **FIXME Daffodil might be close cousins since they'll be so close in age. (Less than two months to go till the big day!)
Then I met up with a very good friend I'd not seen in ages. We arranged to meet half-way between us in Leicester. Neither of us knows Leicester terribly well, so we arranged to meet at the Park & Ride. What could go wrong? We'd even checked that there was only the one.
It turns out that for some unfathomable reason Leicester Park & Ride is closed on Bank Holidays but doesn't mention this on any of the related websites. Because obviously a Bank Holiday is a time when there just isn't the pressure on traffic in a city centre, and you're unlikely to have out-of-town visitors who might look it up in advance. Bozos. And it's only signposted if you come at it from one direction. We came at it from opposite directions, so I had no trouble and my friend got very lost. Even worse, he didn't have a mobile.
When we finally met up, I'd been sat waiting for over an hour. I'd had the radio on for company ... and also my headlights, since it'd been pissing with rain when I stopped. Oops. Luckily the jump start was straightforward.
It got better after that and we had a very nice and very vast curry, and a very good catch-up conversation, which included this gem of an exchange:
- Have you ever heard of Jack Johnston? He did all that stuff about multiple orgasms for men.
- Yes, I'm pretty sure I've come across him. Er, so to speak.
