Maeve has been admitted to Floating Hospital because of a serious reaction to her anti-seizure medication (Trileptal). After 11 days on the very gradually increasing dose, she has developed a God-awful rash all over her body. She must be observed very closely and stay ( Read more... )

Maeve had her routine checkup MRI on Wednesday, and results came back from the relatively-new-on-the-case doctor at Floating; she reported that there had been 30-40% growth (enormous, considering the tumors had not been growing at all), and recommended radiation.  I am now selfishly glad I was in the dark on this, with my phone in my coat pocket ( Read more... )

We had a great, if tiring, time on Sunday. It has not been nice weather for the parade since we were living on the route probably 6 years ago! We started at my aunt's and her sort of tony City Point location. As most know, my niece Maeve was diagnosed with spinal astrocytoma 4 years ago. Things are moving along fine and she is enjoying a period of stability, having just finished a round of chemo in the Fall.  Stacey regularly updates an email list of hundreds, so here it is:

Maeve's scans came out fine!  The Dr. had been looking for cells in the brain that might be triggering the pressure points related to migraines.  Again, this scan showed no change from what we already knew was there.  Additionally, she has been on Imitrex for a week and she has not had a "9" level headache, so that seems to be helping.  She also ( Read more... )
