It turns out that we are in the middle of a winter storm that has given even Los Angeles a few inches. And it's not likely to go away any time soon. :( At least I managed to get out of my house (which is nothing like an igloo, I realize, since igloos are made out of snow to keep warm.)
Also, I cracked open the book version of Pride & Prejudice and it turns out that all those things Darcy said out loud to Caroline Bingley about Elizabeth were real. o_O Guess I didn't read the book that well the first time.
HIMYM: Little Minnesota
Not a lot to say about it besides the fact that it was funny (as every episode of HIMYM should be) and shout-out to Robin Sparkles! Not much else happened.
Heroes: Dual
Actually a good ending episode to Volume Three. (The next volume, #4, is about how all the heroes run around being chased by the government. It amused me to watch Nathan speaking with a refracted version of Obama. A black man for president IS TOTALLY HAPPENING.) Except for the part where Sylar tried to make another Saw movie. The retcon on his character completely ticks me off. He was emo-ing at one point about how Elle was dead, and I wanted to throw the remote at him because who's fault was it that she was dead?! Oh yeah. Sylar's. He acts like he didn't have a choice in the matter when it seemed pretty clear to me that he did.
Cool things in this episode: Peter got his powers back. Ok, it's half and half cool, as you would think it would be harder than shooting himself with the formula. Or you would think he would get a different power, maybe. That would spice things up. But it's back to being an empath.
Coolest thing: ANDO'S POWER. I likes it. Supercharging. Yeah, it's typical. It's been done. But I like it, and I like what it looks like (red electricity.)
When's Hiro getting his power back? What's Usutu doing?
Yeah, I'm ticked that they killed off Claire's biological mother. They've killed off all the cool characters and kept all the ones who sucked from the beginning or ones who are starting to suck. It's annoying.
More anime
In exchange for watching Princess Tutu (we finished the first season :D), I agreed to watch my friend's current favorite anime Simoun (The Japanese pronounce it as Shimoun) which turned out to be a yuri anime (o_O wtf?) but thankfully not as bad as I would've expected from a yuri anime. I bought their reason for all the chicks kissing. It's about a world in which everyone is born a girl, and after their seventeenth birthday, they can choose to go to the Spring, where their god Tempus Spatium (LOL, get it, time and space?!) turns them into either a man or a woman (also their choice).
In the meantime, girls who haven't gone to the Spring are the only ones who can pilot the holy robots the ships called Simoun who are usually used to draw pretty lights in the air as a prayer to their god, but the pretty lights have recently been used as a weapon against invaders. (Some of the lights cause explosions.) The story follows a group of these girls, which is why there isn't a lot of sex (the exception are the siblings... it would be them, wouldn't it?) since that is an adult thing to do, and adulthood in the anime is not something that just happens, it's a decision you take on.
It was a decent anime (not overly cliche) but I wasn't as crazy about it as my friend.
Friend: Isn't that sad? Isn't that emotional?
DK: I was more shocked than anything...
She wasn't as crazy about Princess Tutu as I was (I totally fell in love with it all over again) although she dragged me off to listen to clips of Scheharazade after watching the episode featuring music from that.
While walking through the snow (with her dog) we discussed why our taste in anime diverged so much. She liked anime with girls in it (Simoun) while I favored animes with more boys, or a more equal boy-girl ratio (Ouran High Host Club or Princess Tutu). She likes sci-fi; I hate sci-fi. I like fantasy; she hates it. I like things that are funny... she likes things that are emotional. (I roll my eyes at emotional stuff.)
I'm watching Bahz Luhrmann's Romeo & Juliet and it makes a very interesting contrast to Zeffirelli's.
