I recently read an article in Newsweek about the way our brain ages, and according to them, it's all downhill from here. Basically I peaked around 21, memory-wise and reasoning-wise. On Monday I swung by City College to drop off my resume for a Creative Writing professorship, after a suggestion from a former professor. So Greek book 2 is out for revision, Aristotle Vampire is at Katie's for another read, and book 4 of Pride and Prejudice is also at Katie's for submission to Sourcebooks to see if they'll bite. Next week I'm doing a reading at Perch, which is a restaurant/bar that organizes such things with a City College professor. I'm probably reading from my 10th book, as it's less dialogue-heavy than the published stuff. She said, "Bring a crowd" which was very disappointing, as getting people together is not really my thing.

4,021 words today. I'm still 3,000 behind where I should be at the start of Chapter 7, because of the short chapters in the beginning before I calculated everything out, but setting word goals per chapter was definitely a good thing, because it makes me draw out these insipid conversations the stupid college kids have even longer than I normally ( Read more... )

I told myself I was going to take the day off from writing this awful Greek book, but I'm on a bit of a roll, and it's really hard to get on a role with this inane material. I think a good litmus test for whether you've done enough research in a particular area occurs when you pick up a new book on the subject and don't learn many things you don't already know. I've about reached that point with Alexander the Great, at least involving his early life and his death and the general plotting of his campaigns, though I  ( Read more... )

I am totally stuck on the last area in Fallout 2. I even went to an earlier saved game, leveled up, and bought everything the merchants hand. For some reason, they decided to make the final segment of the game 1000 times harder than the rest of it, as I get viciously slaughtered pretty much however I go about the levels.
