This morning I went to get a hug from Amma, the hugging saint. Normally I don't like to be hugged, but I make an exception for saints. Or supposed saints internationally renowned for their hugging.

I have a fondness for picking up things that I think are odd instead of the more well-known souvenirs, though I certainly did get enough well-known souvenirs in India. I also got a small statue that I cannot identify. My money's on some kind of god and not Buddha as the gift shop owner claimed. Anyone want to weigh in?

The Dalai Lama was in NYC today at the Beacon Theater. I did not pay to hear him speak platitudes about compassion in his incomprehensible accent. I swung by as he was leaving. Of course the police kept us like a block away, but I managed this:

I am thinking of going to India in May. The reason for the timing is really that it's between Jewish holidays and before it's too hot. It's been awhile since I've been to Israel, but I don't really have that "itch" yet, and for $1000 plane fare I would rather have the itch to go ( Read more... )
