Faux Fur, HELP!

I've been enjoying this community for a few weeks but now I have a question of my own. Anyone have any experience/tips on working with faux fur? About a year and a half ago I picked up a faux fur coat from a thrift shop for $10 - the zipper is broken and I thought rather than replacing the zipper why not get those little things that have the loops and then the little dongle that goes through to keep it closed (and I'm sure there is a technical name for those things, I wanna say frogs but I think those are just the fancy things on oriental style garments - but's the same principle). How would you go about putting those on faux fur and what should I do about the zipper? I'm sure it'd look pretty hack just sitting there - can you just take them out and re-sew the hem? Also it's white with grey stripes but I'd really entertain the idea of adding maybe a pale blue stripe between those just so people KNOW that it's faux fur (as if touching it isn't enough, but some people have obviously never touched an animal before and can't tell the difference between cheap faux fur and real animal fur) and just because it would be fun - it just looks TOO real right now and I find it really annoying getting lectured by people on how cruel it is to wear fur when I'm not wearing it, so some blue would make it a little more mine (or maybe pink, the liner is pinkish) and hopefully elminate 90% of the unneccesary lectures I get except I wouldn't even begin to think of what I could use on the faux fur itself to tint it - got any sugestions?
