One thing I enjoyed this summer was getting to see all the free Shakespeare in the Park. I immensely enjoyed seeing all 4 shows offered. And they made me want read the plays themselves. I've read several of Shakespeare's plays but I'd like to go back and refresh my memory of my favorites and try some new ones.

Anthony Warlow as Jack Sparrow ... errr ... The Pirate King in "Pirates of Penzance"

I've heard he's also channeling Jack Sparrow in mannerisms and singing style so I hear. If you can imagine that.

I got Theater Mania's Guide to Musical Theater Recordings at the library (amazon link although the cover art is different the name, publishing date etc are the same)). It's a hoot! It ranks (almost) every cast album by a 0 to 5 star rating system and gives a short review. Sometimes it's very predictable and some times their reviews are surprising ( Read more... )

I was thrilled that Seattle's Intiman Theatre won the regional theater award. In general I'm excited that Seattle is becoming more prominent in the national theater scene. However it's not always beneficial. The 5th Avenue had huge success with "Hairspray" but it doesn't look like "The Wedding Singer" is of the same caliber. Of course I could be ( Read more... )
