Round 5: Manave

Feb 11, 2022 14:19

Wow, up to round 5 already! Although I should note, I'm only playing 2-day rounds, so it isn't nearly as impressive progress as it sounds. But still...10 days in isn't bad! Let's jump in to visit the chief's hut.

Last time with the Manaves:
  • Chief Fangaloka has been downing the elixir (supplied by the local shaman) to stay alive long enough to get an heir through his second wife, Erita.
  • Despite a few nervous jitters, Nanihi had her teen birthday and promised her parents to be nice to her bethrothed, Rarahu, even though she finds him insufferably boring.
  • Erita met with her secret lover, Ahio, after dark and the two were almost caught red-handed by the chief. From now on they are rendezvousing strictly off the property.
  • Nikora, Fangaloka's second daughter and Erita's first, grew into a toddler. That's okay if you didn't remember her. Nosim else in the household does.

Just for fun, here's the family photo. From right to left: Nanihi, Tumakuru (the live-in servant), Erita, Nikora, Fangaloka, and Huhana.

Finally.

Rain seems to be a rare thing on this lot, so the family is well used to peeing in a bush and bathing in the pond.

But when the water catcher fills...

...it's a time for celebration!

Wow, that is probably the least glamorous top of a career ever. And for the chief too!
Huhana, stop laughing at your husband.

Now that she's left her childhood behind, Nanihi tries to fit into the adult world...but it seems the adults-or at least her father's councillors-aren't ready to take her seriously yet.

Baby time! Could it finally be the son Fangaloka has waited for so long?

It is!

Nanihi isn't sure what to think about the small gnawing in her stomach of...jealousy? Disappointment? She knew her father would get his heir eventually, but there's something so final about it now. Where does this leave her?

Fangaloka throws a party to celebrate the birth of his son and future chief, Nui.

Every important Sim turns up to offer congratulations, but the shaman also makes time to check in on Nanihi.

Tumakuru: I don't know if this is a good idea, kui-Nanihi. What if your father...?
Nanihi: Stop worrying, Tumakuru. I told you to play a game with me, and you are supposed to do as you are told, yes? So Papa can't say anything. Anyhow, he is sleeping late after last night's party, so it's my turn to have fun. Now stay focused; you're practically letting me win!

I'm pretty sure the only way to potty train a toddler is to cheat, due to motive decay being very reduced in this game. Probably it would be completely fine to just let the tots not learn how to use a potty, but I have this weird tic about toddlers needing to learn all their skills...so cheating it is!

Now that she is no longer pregnant, Erita is allowed (by the game) to leave the lot. Things are a bit chaotic here...

...so she and Ahio are happy to find their own secluded corner.

Alone at last.

It's also a great opportunity to test out a few Sun&Moon sets that I'd finally installed!

Sadly she doesn't have enough skill to get any honey.

But she is attractive to the bees!

I think you need logic points to get the honey successfully, and Erita obviously doesn't have enough, but going into the water to escape the bees shows she has a least a few logic points!

I'm sure I had some clever quip about hyenas and mastery of basket weaving when I took this picture, but darned if I can remember it now.

Goats seem like a chiefly animal to have, yes?

At least it gives Tumakuru something to do. I'm sure he's very grateful...

It's Nanihi's turn to take a day to herself, and she picks the research base to visit.

Nanihi: Oh come on!!
Tumata: Heh, harder than it looks, isn't it? Need a few tips, girl?

Nanihi: I can do it myself.

Rarahu apparently didn't get the memo about Nanihi's independent spirit, and pauses to correct her technique.
Rarahu: Sometimes a properly targeted dart can mean the difference between life and death in the jungle. Good shot!
Nanihi is surprised to see him laugh-and equally surprised to find herself laughing too! Could it be that Rarahu isn't as stuck-up and boring as she'd always thought?

Tumakuru: At last! That was the worst job I have ever had!
We'll let him enjoy his freedom from the potty for now. Nobody needs remind him of the new baby that's growing up this evening...

David and Patariki still have a bone to pick over the Tumata incident.

Much to these bloodthirsty Sims' delight.

Patariki: And that is why you don't cross a warrior!

Patariki: Because he can suck out your soul...
David: *whimpers*

Not really surprising that everysim forgot about Nikora and her birthday.

She grows up pretty cute! Growing into her features, I think.

...Uh..mostly.

I don't know why I thought it was a good idea to give all this family matching formalwear.

Let's just focus on Nui's big day, and not the dress code.

Hmm, he certainly looks a lot like his sister.

Sure looks like a clone to me...

Not that Fangaloka minds. He has not rolled a single want for Nikora, yet suddenly his panel is full for Nui. And here I thought I was taking creative licence with his favoritism...

Notes:
  • As mentioned before, it's been months since I played this round, so going through the pictures has been a good test of memory. Apologies for the jumbly feeling of it all when memory fails.
  • Playing with the Sun&Moon sets has been fun, especially to add more things for the Sims to do in this more limited game. Most of them seem to work fine, some don't work at all, and some mostly work: for example, the basket weaving set. Huhana can use the craft station, but there are no animations (I suppose they would be from the OFB benches) so the baskets instantly appear when selected. A bit disappointing, as I was hoping that was something she could fill her day with, but I suppose she can make a few and then go back to painting.
I hope you aren't sick of babies and toddlers yet, because we're getting other full dose at the Mamanu household...next time!
