Round 4: Langsford

Feb 03, 2022 14:38

Hello again! I had the previous round and this round all organized, cropped, and ready to post, complete with headers before I took my extended break, so it's pretty easy to toss up a few posts now. I have at least 2 rounds of pictures that are not organized, so eventually I'll get around to a) finding them, b) sorting them, and maybe one day, c) posting them as well. And maybe I'll even open the game again after that!

Anyway, here's what happened last time with Earnest:
  • After a broken leg (or some other vague ailment) left him down and out for a few rounds, airplane mechanic and erstwhile cruiseship passenger Earnest has emerged from the jungle, free of his oranutan rescuers, or possibly captors...he isn't sure.
  • Now he's on a mission to find his daughter, Emma, whom he is certain must have survived the wreck.
  • He's met a few natives, and most of them are unfriendly and/or unhelpful, but those who aren't don't know his daughter or where to find the other castaways.
  • One local suggested he try asking the mystical singing stones, which gave him a cryptic answer to Emma's location.

Despite a late night out at the singing stones, Earnest was up early that day, and spent all morning pondering the stones' riddle. All that thinking was giving him a headache, and getting him no closer to finding Emma, so he grabbed his machete and wandered off to explore another corner of this forsaken island.

His travels led him to some sort of air base. It was overrun with orangutans (as was most of the island), but there was a fairly solid-looking building there, and plenty of items outside he could probably salvage.

Of course he had to check out the rusty old airplane first.

It was in poor shape, but maybe inside he could find some parts to fix it up. Once he found Emma, this might be their ticket off this island.

He was surprised at the resources available inside...

...and running water!

Earnest grabbed a tarp from outside. With a few sticks and vines, he was certain he could rig up a water system of his own back on the beach. Not that he needed a shower, right on the ocean, but drinking rain water caught in empty coconut shells wasn't the most efficient, nor hydrating set-up.

Earnest stayed for hours at the base, enjoying the luxuries of technology. It was tempting to make his home here-there were even proper beds! Though he was pretty sure other little critters had made a home in the old mattresses. But all his things were still at the beach, and every path he'd taken he'd left marks leading back there for somesim-hopefully Emma-to find.

He would come again tomorrow, though.

The next morning, he admired his handiwork. With a few pieces from the wreckage washed ashore, a few donations from the jungle, and of course his treasures from the air base, the rain-catcher hadn't been hard at all to assemble. Now all he needed was some rain...

Might as well head back to the base while he waited.

This time, it wasn't just orangutans visiting.

Tumata: Oh look, another useless outsider.
Earnest: Yes, I know there are others like me. Do you know where to find them? Or if my daughter is with them? Her name is Emma, and she's blonde like me, very kind, loving...

Tumata: Hmph, they're all on the beach, of course, lounging about like lazy orangutans, and just as ugly.
Earnest: The beach! Wonderful! Which one?

Tumata: Why should I help you? Would you offer to sell me a hyena too?! I am not interested! I'm tired of stupid outsiders! If you all get eaten by jaguars or taken by pirates, I will not miss a single one of you. Especially not that fool of a hyena breeder!!
Earnest: Surely there must be at least one sane person on this island...

There were plenty of old airplane manuals on the bookshelf, so Earnest pored over them most of the day, feeling even more confident he could eventually fix that old plane.

Unfortunately his attention was so wrapped up in the books, he missed a few other opportunities...

The orangutans woke him, just before dawn. He couldn't believe he'd fallen asleep! What if Emma had found his trail and was at the beach right now, looking for him? He hurried to go, and just as he got outside...

Earnest: Hey! Hey you! Wait up! You were on the Queen Solomon too, right?

David: Sure was. Hey, you must be that new castaway I heard about. I was keeping an eye out for you while hyena-hunting. The name's David.
Earnest: Earnest Langsford. Please tell me you know my daughter Emma.

David: Oh sure, man. She's hanging out with the rest of the gang at Barren Banks. Me, I prefer to stay inland.
Earnest: Barren Banks...? Between rock and salt there is barren hope. Let me guess, there's a rough and narrow path to get there.

David: How did you know? It's a little tricky, so they don't get many visitors, and they don't head out much either. And between you and me, it's probably for the best that way. Anyway, I'll tell you how to get there. You're going to head south-east for quite a ways, and then when you see the airplane crash site...

Hugh: So, you are Emma's father. I'm the *ahem* leader of our little group.
Earnest: You'd better not be this dreamy boyfriend Emma can't stop talking about, mister.

Hugh: No, that would be Robby. But I'm sure Emma must have mentioned what wonderful care she has received here under my superb leadership. Yes, it cost me much time and many resources, but these sacrifices must be made for the betterment of our youth! And I'm certain you are more than able to help out around here. After all, you look like you could contribute a handy skill point or two, and as I said, I did make many sacrifices for your daughter... Not that I'm keeping track! But...how many resources are you bringing to the table? As the leader of our community, comes also the burden of treasurer.
Earnest: Why you slimy little weasel...

Earnest: I can tell you right now that Emma and I owe you absolutely zilch, and I guarantee she would have been better off without your so-called guidance, snivel-face! I wouldn't trust you to lead your way out of a clown car! Now get out of my way before I really get mad!

Hugh: As I was saying, I would be delighted to help Emma pack!

Emma: Dad, here's Robby. I know you're going to just love him! He's just the dreamiest, most wonderful, handsomest gentlesim I've ever met!

Robby: So you're the old man, huh? Cool, we all thought you were dead!
Earnest: Funny, a lot of Sims say that about all my daughter's ex-boyfriends...and they're usually right.
Emma: Daddy, be nice! Robby, you're all packed, right?

Earnest: Packed? Now why would he need to pack when just the two of us are leaving?

Robby: Four, actually. I'm bringing my pet hyena along too. He's an excellent guard dog!

Earnest: Emma, there is no way I am letting this punk and his wild animal come home with us.
Emma: Oh Daddy, I'm so glad that storm didn't wash away your sense of humour!

Earnest: I suppose he might be useful when the plane needs a test pilot...or crash dummy...

Notes:
  • I was hoping to have Earnest actually run into Emma on a community lot to call his quest complete, but she never showed up. So I eventually amended the rules to allow him to meet any castaway to show him the way. Of course as soon as I do that he runs into no one but natives and then sleeps through all the castaways who come onto the lot and leave before he's even out of bed. :/
  • I'm also very happy to finally split up the Castaways! I mentioned before that I was running out of ideas while playing them, so a smaller household will hopefully give me a bit more direction whenever I get back into the game again.
Next time: The Manave (chief's) household, where we're hoping for an heir to finally show up, and probably some other stuff. I'll let you know once I dig out the pictures. :D
