Time to visit the men's hut, where there are men...and a hut. Or three huts, depending on how you look at the layout. Anyway!
Last time there were a lot of dirty jokes and congratulations, which both increased once the love hearts got going. First Emobi proposed to Rainui, then Timoti used a love potion on Orama, just to see what would happen. She fell for him hard, and he thought it was nice, but got over this love thing quickly. Ahio also used a love potion on Kiri, which was probably just to distract him from being in love with the chief's wife, but he's admitting nothing. Engagements led to a double wedding, and the bachelor pad is down to just two members...
...except that Patariki left the retired shaman centre and has come to join his fellow singles. Excellent: 3 is the perfect household size, especially in a 3-bed hut!
All these recent engagements have Rarahu feeling mixed emotions for his own betrothal to the chief's daughter.
And Timoti is still slouching around showing absolutely zero interest in any commitment.
Patariki's first actions are to immediately schmooze with every important and well-connected Sim on the lot. As the old shaman's foundling of unknown parentage, his status is tenuous at best, so you must forgive him for a slight obsession with social climbing.
If this were the real jungle, Patariki would be a jaguar's lunch after that bad slip.
Though I think he's a bit more concerned whether or not the master hunter saw his poor performance. Buck up, Pats. I'm sure Rarahu has had his share of falls. I personally have never seen one, but...
Orama stops by and miracle of miracles, Timoti has actually gotten dressed by then!
She tries to drop a few hints about a ring, but all he has for her are dirty jokes.
Kahi: If you don't mind my advice, marriage is not for Sims like Timoti. I know because he and I are very alike.
Orama: What do you mean?
Arona: He means you should find somesim who can give you what you want and move on from that useless lout Timoti!
But Orama is too love struck to even consider their suggestion, that Timoti is the problem. No, it must be her. She is undesirable somehow.
She noticed Rarahu's door was open and slipped in to see what he was reading. She had never thought of him as much of a reader.
From there things happened quickly. They spoke briefly about the book, but soon Orama was flipping her hair, batting her eyelashes, feeling maybe a bit silly. But she needed to know if the "feminine charms" had somehow missed her.
They had not.
She should not have done that, she knew. And yet...it felt satisfying somehow. Timoti had no idea, but Orama felt she had shown him that night.
"[Rarahu's] reputation for tidiness also makes him a hit with the tribeswomen, and a welcome dinner guest."
Patariki's continued quest to suck up to befriend as many nobles as possible is going well, but he can't help feeling a sense of emptiness inside...
Brushing aside the fact that this chance card makes very little sense for an islander, I see Patariki misses his family! Well that's an easy fix.
Amanaki: Good to see you, son! Hm, you look a bit thin. Have you been eating enough? Too much time spent on the obstacle course, I think.
Urari: *ignores all in a beeline to chessboard*
Amanaki: I saw that Ngaio girl recently at the market. Fine young lady. You got on well with her, I recall. Have you contacted her lately? You know I am not so young anymore...it would be nice to see a grandchild or two before I go.
Urari: Yes, yes, go for the pawn! Right into my trap...
Patariki: Well, the homesickness is certainly cured.
Chief Fangaloka also stops by, and Rarahu is very glad to see him. Timoti came home with a workbench the day before and has been tinkering non-stop with the outsider salvage he's found on the beach. Here is the perfect opportunity to unload some of the accumulating junk.
Fangaloka: Outsider technology, you say? Fascinating! Are you sure you want to give this away, Rarahu?
Rarahu: I'm certain it will see much more use at your hut than ours, koro-chief.
Well that's not entirely true, as Fangaloka immediately tries out his new toy.
It's a bit complicated...
...but he's figured out enought to be hooked!
The men take a stroll that evening, just to get out of the house.
Tidy Rarahu is, of course, popular with the ladies.
But one of his admirers seems to be avoiding him lately...
There wasn't much action at the Simian City (too many annoying orangutans!) so they visit the hot springs instead. Here we learn of Patariki's irrational fear of hot water as he opts to nap instead. He's an odd duck, our Pats.
Ngaio,
resident doomsayer: Believe me or not, but disaster is coming. It would be best to have an escape plan in place.
Timoti: Easy! We can simply restore the castaways' ship.
Rarahu: Don't you pay attention to the shaman's tellings of history? The last time the volcano was angry, many of our people fled by canoe, but the water boiled and capsized them. Nosim made it back to shore alive.
Timoti: Yes, that is why we would restore the big ship rather than our small canoes. It's clearly stronger and far more durable.
Rarahu: Ah yes, the strong and durable ship which is currently wrapped around three rocks. Certainly a sound choice.
No, these pictures aren't out of order. Maata the vicious townie dealt out punishment repeatedly to Eriatara here. (Though to be fair, he did retaliate in kind.) Bold move, considering Eriatara is head of the lowborn class and could repay her action with the muckiest duties indefinitely. Or maybe he already has and she's expressing her opinion of the chores list.
Yes, I do have sub-hierarchies within the class structure. Yes, I am crazy.
Also, where did your facepaint go, Eriatara?
An annoying thing about community lots is that generally the same townies tend to appear on them for one household/game session. I don't know if this is normal game behaviour, coincidence, related to my comm lot visitor mod, or just bad luck, but I do know that the "invite household" phone option is fantastic.
Patariki's fear of hot water is amazingly overcome when there are nobles there to hobnob with!
Rarahu and Nanihi attempt another stilted conversation, but the awkwardness eases over a game of catch.
Rarahu: Nanihi! Is this how a chief's daughter behaves out in public?
Nanihi: UGH! You and your propriety. You're even worse than my mother!
Such a brash, undisciplined girl, Rarahu thinks. Will she ever be able to tame the wild inside? More importantly, will she tame it before their inevitable wedding?
Emobi: Is there any sign of a wedding arch in your future yet, my noncommittal former-hut-mate?
Timoti: I prefer to spend my time in the company of many Sims, rather than one alone. The flaw of marriage is that a Sim marries another Sim and his focus turns to her alone. Suddenly he has no time for his friends anymore.
Emobi: ...Fine, we'll have you over for dinner soon.
For some reason the opposite corner of the hot tub is not far enough away from his wife for Ahio, as he uses his shoulderblades to carve out an escape route. :(
Patariki: And as Timoti has suggested, outsider technology provides a new world of opportunites for our small island.
Fangaloka: That reminds me...there was a jump combo I had almost mastered and I think it could progress me to the next level if I follow it with a double roll...
Huhana: *stifles a yawn*
Pretty rain. :D
Ooh, mother-daughter matching swimwear. How...nice?
Gina showed up and waved hello to just about everysim on the lot during her trek down that slope. She's so cute. :)
She also has a one-track mind.
Hold up-what's going on up there?
Sigh. You two are seriously asking for a time-out.
Yeah...time to head home before these two follow the previous bad example.
Rarahu invites yet another admirer over that evening, which inspires Timoti to do the same.
But maybe his attempts at maintaining their relationship have come too late?
Notes:
- Keen eyes may have spotted the second Sim Rarahu wants to get engaged to is Orama. I think he had flirted with her briefly before-maybe even kissed? I don't remember-but she came into his room to flirt with him on her own.
- Rarahu's thought about Nanihi taming her "wild side" is adapted from something he says about her in story mode. It seems like he doesn't approve of his chief's parenting methods...though of course he's far too subordinate to ever say so to the chief. :)
