Round 4: Tama

Jun 05, 2021 12:08

At the Tama household today, and following Winford's example, shall we fall right in?

Someone forgot to tell the loading screen that Patariki moved out last round. There were plenty of comings and goings, though, so you can't blame it for getting confused.
  • Afi is jealous of new shaman Jessica and got into a fight with her.
  • Amanaki told off his former apprentice, and Afi stormed off.
  • Somesim dropped off a baby on the front step and the elders named him Toa. (He has remarkable head support for a newborn!)
  • Urari took on an apprentice healer, Lani, and that's when Patariki realized an opening at the men's hut meant he didn't have to stay in this crowded place anymore.
  • Oh, and Winford is around too, but didn't do anything memorable enough for the loading screen to acknowledge him.
Yeesh, that's a lot of names. I personally took a long time to remember them all (and still get townies confused), so don't feel bad if you're getting mixed up. And if you aren't mixed up, you are a champ! Way to go!

Okay, weird compliments aside, let's get a look at Winford, because he's cute and I like him, even though he doesn't do much yet.

Props to him for wearing a smile while even more stuff for the new baby invades his private space.

Urari: A changing table? Did we not have one of these already?
Amanaki: I thought so too, but couldn't find it. So I had Patariki help me put one together quickly before he left.
Urari: Hm, maybe our memories are failing...
A few hours later I found the original change table in the bedroom next door. Looks like I'm actually the senile one!

The life of an apprentice means doing chores. And since the old apprentice ran away, it's up to Lani to keep up!
In other words, I still hadn't decided what a healer should do except wear cool face paint, so I kept her busy while I thought on it...

Amanaki: Son, do you recall our talk on chewing your food?
Winford: Mmff, groff, schoree!

Urari: Mind your manners, son. You know we want you to grow up with good manners, be a good boy. Not bad: good!
Amanaki: Yes, dear. I think he sees the point.

Winford: Dear diary. Mama gave me another lecture today about being good. Is this normal, diary? I try to do my chores every day and be nice to my new brother, even though he cries all the time and wakes me up at night, and slobbers all over my toys... At least I have my secret clubhouse all to myself! Not even Nanihi knows where the top secret-

Hey! No peeking, Toa!

That was a close call! *gasp* What if he was looking for the directions to my secret clubhouse?!

The map to my secret clubhouse is definitely NOT hiding under the chess table. If you are reading this, do not even THINK about looking there!

Lani: Oh, do you use the bougainvillea to dye your clothes too?

Winford's big brothers are his heroes, so even though it's only been a day since Patariki moved out, Win misses him!

Time for a little brotherly bonding on the obstacle course.

RIP Winford. :(

Patariki: Up, up! The hyena teeth are nipping your heels! You have to run!

Winford: Teeth on the heels or spikes through the head? I think I prefer the hyenas!

Patariki: Not a bad start, little brother. But keep practising if you want to be a great hunter like me!
Winford: Of course! I want to be just like you...all blurry three of you. Uh...can I go lie down now?

One or both of these elders had a want for an anniversary party, so I figured why not.

All the important Sims are invited! Plus Gina. And Timoti. For some reason.

Winford: And then he said if I keep working on the course and eating my vegetables, I can outrun a hyena in no time!

It's a quiet party, but considering the highly aggressive Huhana is there, that's pretty impressive.

Knowledge Sim to the bone, Lani wants to unlock every secret of learning. Lucky for her, the Tamas have plenty of salvaged tools for education.

Another early morning wake-up call courtesy of Toa reminds Winford that although Lani has taken over Patariki's old room, Afi's is currently unoccupied.

Amanaki is adamant Afi will be back, and if he is, he'll be really mad Winford was touching his stuff. But surely a good night's sleep in the meantime is worth it!

And as an extra incentive, Afi's bed has the best bounce in the hut!

The family takes an outing to the Crossroads. All goes well...

...until Rarahu starts lecturing poor Winford.

Rarahu: Do not speak of Pili with such disrespect! You outsiders have no honour!

Lani manages to catch the eye of one of the (3) townies named Hori (green/blue loincloth behind her there is another one).

But when she goes to reciprocate, he isn't interested. Don't play with her emotions like that, Hori!

Fortunately Kea is more receptive.

Lani, I think you have a type. The "Marylena Hamilton face" type. :D
It's okay, that's my favourite too.

Sandra: All I'm saying, dahling, is that a man with money is the man I want. I mean loaded. Sacks full of cash. You wouldn't happen to know any fine fellows that fit that bill, now would you sweetie?

For those who haven't played, the Singing Stones have a little memory game you can play that rewards you in the story mode. I wondered if there was still a reward now...

...but I suspect all it offers is bragging rights.
Lani: Pfft. Can we visit a more interesting lot yet?
Sure, just let me document Amanaki's questionable child-rearing techniques first.

Okay, now we can move on. :D

Yeah, you and half the other ladies on the island. Get in line, Lani.

Winford and Nanihi choose to have a friendly game at the most awkward spot on the lot, but I am glad to see them still getting along, despite her now towering over him.

Of course Rarahu isn't as happy as I am about his betrothed's love of outsiders.

When she was a simple commoner, Lani got along decently with the tribesmen, but since her elevation in status, she's seen a sudden elevation in these young men's interest. Being a clever Knowledge Sim, she can connect the dots, but she also can enjoy the attention while it lasts.

Winford's attentions, however, are not so desirable.

I don't think I documented it, but Urari caught a cold in the first round. You'd think she would have built up some immunity (especially as the village healer!) but here we are again.

Winford: Do you ever go home?

Lani is a true Knowledge Sim and wants to know everything. Naturally this includes inter-Sim relationships, so she and her latest admirer find a quiet corner to themselves where nosim can bother them.

...or so they think.

Rera: That was nice.
Lani: I thought so too. Except for the audience.
Rera: Audience?

Urari: Lani! This type of behaviour is not why I brought you in!
Lani: Are you rested up from your illness, kui-healer?
Urari: My nose may be plugged up, but I can still sniff out inappropriate actions! Are you planning to marry this Sim?
Lani: No, but-
Urari: Then why are you hiding away in the bushes with him like some scandal waiting to happen?!

Rera: I will just be on my way...
Urari: A healer's reputation is important, Lani. The people need to trust you to do your work appropriately and well.
Lani: I understand. I just wanted to know...
Urari: Know what?

Lani: Everything!
Urari: You will learn. We start preparing the garden soil first thing tomorrow morning. Rather, you will be preparing the garden soil while I continue convalescing. Hard work, but you have shown you like to be out in nature, yes?
Lani: *sigh* Yes, kui-healer.

Toa's birthday brings a brief respite from the day's work. It's a simple, family affair, seeing as they don't even know who his true parents are.

Though now that his features are more obvious, Amanaki has a clue...

Amanaki: I wonder if our greatest hunter knows he has a little duplicate crawling around now. I wonder if the chief knows such a thing is possible...

For now it might be best to keep you close to home and away from gossiping villagers, little one. You are still too small to cause big problems.

Notes:
  • Surprise, Rarahu-baby! Ha ha, I was hoping he'd get a bit more of his mother, but those mighty hunter genes are strong indeed. :D
  • So yes, Rarahu has dabbled around with a few noble ladies and while I have a few mods for risky woohoo and silent pregnancy, they obviously don't work on townies. In a world of no birth control, I decided not to let townies off the hook, and roll a die for them to determine conception or not. This (un)lucky mother was temporarily moved in so I could accelerate her pregnancy and nab the baby. I then townified the two of them, waited a couple of days to make up for the accelerated pregnancy, and then teleported them over to the Tama hut. (In case anyone was interested in the process!)
  • I think typically unwanted children would be abandoned in the jungle (see Patariki's backstory) or handed over to the lowborn as a kinder way to get rid of them, but I guess Toa's mother wanted a better life for her son.
  • In other news, I finally decided that the healers can have gardening as their life's purpose, so I've downloaded a few sets from Sun&Moon to set up next round. The herbs in particular are going to be their specialty, and maybe I'll find a way to cheat health to any sick Sims if they get herbs from Urari? We'll see!
Next time it's the Women's Hut, where there's even more baby drama to resolve. As always, thanks for reading!
