Round 4: Mamanu

May 24, 2021 09:17

Ooh, shiny! Here's another quickie update for you. :)

Recap: New shaman Jessica (née Knight) lives in Creepy Hollow with her husband, Akolo, and their son, Tuzu. Unlike the other outsiders on the island, Jessica has completely given up her old lifestyle and embraced the islanders' way of life. She recently overworked herself, resulting in a miscarriage and bad dreams, so Akolo hired a live-in servant, Aisea, to help around the house. The couple are now expecting again.

Superdad Akolo and son Tuzu "Cheeks" Mamanu.

The inside of containers in this game are surprisingly well detailed. Same with the food!
I hope you aren't hungry while you read this, as there are a lot of food pics.

Another note on things I have overthought: I entered every name in a spreadsheet to help me remember them and I noticed that Jessica's name contains several letters not seen in any other islander names. So to make her name easier to pronounce, and as further integration into her new home, she has been given a "translated" name: Efiki.

This all sounds very solemn, but Shaman Efiki still has time to giggle about the pompous councillors. Even serious Rarahu has to laugh at her impressions.

Jessica: Aisea, thank you for all the work you do around here. I just want you to know I notice and really appreciate the help.

Aisea: I... Thank you, kui-shaman!

Aisea isn't used to such praise. Her low status means being ignored unless a higher born has work for her, or a complaint about that work not meeting standards. She knows many in the village question having an outsider as shaman, but Aisea thinks maybe the change is for the better.

Although Robby Smith's bio hints that he will cheat on girlfriend Emma Langsford, so far he's behaved himself...

...but he sure is tiptoeing dangerously close to temptation.

Orama: Shaman Efiki, I wonder if I could join you.
Jessica: Certainly, Orama. What's on your mind?

Orama: I want to marry somesim, but he doesn't seem to want the same, or even to notice me! I have the interest of other Sims, but my heart is set on only him.
Jessica: Sometimes the heart knows what it wants better than we do.
Orama: Yes. I didn't know him well a few days ago, but then my heart suddenly told me I am madly in love with him. Oh Timoti!

Jessica: Timoti??
Orama: You know him, yes? Isn't he wonderful?
Jessica: I, uh, sold him a potion recently... I meant to check in and see if it worked as intended. You're sure he really isn't interested in you?
Orama: Sadly, no. Anytime a Sim brings up marriage to him he laughs, saying he isn't ready.

Jessica: Could I have mixed up the phenoplast with the papaya seeds? Sorry, Orama. I'm not sure I give you any advice right now beyond being patient. Let me sleep on this and maybe I can think up something to help.

Orama has the strange feeling the shaman knows more than she has said, but often the shaman's ways are mysterious to humbler Sims. Who is she to question?

There are so many detailed accessories created for this game to fit the island setting, and yet Sims still write with a scalpel. :D

An appropriate first word for our budding musician.

ART

Meanwhile, Jessica is also hard at work, trying to find out where her love potion went wrong.

I think I would like this outfit a lot more if that necklace weren't so obnoxious.

A promotion means Akolo is the first Sim to acquire the workbench!

Aisea: Oh, is it time for the baby, kui-shaman? Shall I fetch you some hot water?
Jessica: No, no, everything is fine. :)

Akolo: Ack, the baby! Are you feeling all right, my dear?
Jessica: Yep, yep, everything is fine! :)

Jessica: Ow! Or maybe nooooooot!

*panic everywhere*

Ah, all is well. It's another boy! (Apparently Jessica is hoarding them all.) This little guy's name is Jumbok. :D

Jessica: Now let's just put you on the floor...

...so all these strangers can suddenly appear and cheer for you. Yay!

No, Aisea. A cauldron is not a good bathtub for baby! D:

I really like the friendship dynamic between Jessica and David, the two protagonist options. While Jessica has completely re-identified herself into the tribal culture, David remains happily an outsider, though he's also happy to trade and interact with the natives...and try to hock his hyenas to them.

And despite their differences, they still get along great.

No, Waiata, no one wants to play with you.

Stupid Waiata walked in looking for a banana from Akolo while he was on diaper duty. Somehow it glitched them both, and he reset with Jumbok still stuck on the table, uninteractable. Thanks Waiata. :/

Fortunately the stuckobjectsremover saves the day again! A little burnination + save and reload the lot = baby safe and sound, and with a clean diaper too!
The hoops we have to jump through for a game with no moveobjects cheat!

Me too, Aisea. Me too.

Too bad the game doesn't actually have an adoption option, so we're stuck with this dumb orang forever.

Notes:
  • For some reason this family name is the hardest for me to remember. I always want to stick an L in it.
  • As exposed in a previous update, the love potion wasn't really one-sided, as Timoti got full hearts and everything too, but he sure lost interest in Orama right away. And it always seems whenever a Sim brings up the marriage topic, he runs off right after. Meanwhile Orama, a Knowledge Sim pretending to be Family, is pining away for him, poor thing.
  • Tuzu is the name of the historic first shaman, as revealed in story mode. He was friends with the first chief, who wasn't named, but obviously it was Jumbok I. ;) I'm thinking that's it for the Mamanu babies, however, as I'm running out of Sims lore names.
Next up: A new member joins the men's hut. Until then, thanks for reading!
