Like all of his kind, magicians, sorcerers, when Borden smiles it means something totally different. These days, anyway

"Hallo there, you look lost" James grins at the stranger "I'm going to assume you're new here... do I assume correctly?"

[watchclosely]

"You may assume that." His eyebrows quirk up slightly as he slides the ring back onto his finger, his other hand pulling out a coin and doing the same exact thing.

It's actually pretty impressive, the smoothness of it, when you consider he's missing a few digits.

[stagman]

He looks mildly impressed with the coin-trick. "Well, good luck then, I'm James Potter" he holds out his hand to shake.

[watchclosely]

"Alfred Borden." He shakes the other man's hand, but is a little quick to pull away.

Just a little.

"And thank you." Although he may prefer to make his own luck. He's not sure.

[mad_leprechaun]

*is immediately attracted by the flash of the gold band-- after all, Sweeney is a leprechaun*

Hey, man. *casually nods at Borden's hand* What've you got there?

[watchclosely]

The ring slides back onto his finger easily, casually, as smooth a gesture as the legerdemain of earlier.

"Nothing."

Anymore.

[mad_leprechaun]

*no stranger to sleight of hand, he watches the ring with a practiced eye*

Nothing, my dirty Irish ass. I guess you think you're pretty clever, huh?

[watchclosely]

He dances it along for a moment, then palms it and makes it disappear.

"I don't know," he says, smiling. And it's an honest answer. Of course it is.

*notes the missing fingers, then nods and pulls back his left sleeve to reveal a stump where his hand should be*

Borden just looks at him. He might not have come to terms with his injury, but he is a man of secrets, and not inclined to give them up easily, quickly, or lightly.

*with a long, long look (and Borden isn't the only one lacking in the sanity department)* They take all when all you gave.

[watchclosely]

Borden's decided that he's been out-crazied. But he puts his hands back in his pockets and shrugs.

"It was all for nothing. I knew that. He didn't."

[weemackenzie]

*and this is a Jemmy staring curiously at Borden* 'Llo, sir!

[watchclosely]

"Hello, young man." Borden smiles. He is, occasionally, good with kids.

"What's that you've got there?"

Okay, so pulling a coin from behind someone's ear is an old trick, but it works. Most of the time.

[weemackenzie]

*watch his eyes go round in awe -- so many fun new people to play with now!*

Wooow! How'd ye do that?

[watchclosely]

"Magic."

He smiles, pulls another coin out of the other side, and seems to pull one out of the boy's nose before rolling them both along his knuckles simultaneously.

And Armand has been completely intrigued by this interesting pile of newcomers. He's actually been hanging out at the Mansion to see who else shows up. "Oh hello there, monsieur." He bows to Borden, quite formally. It's his way, and there is nothing of mockery in it.

[watchclosely]

Borden makes a slight bow, more a nod than a bow, but with the implication of all the courtesy behind it.

"Good evening."

[sweariwontdie]

"I am Armand St. Just. You do look new here." He smiles.

[watchclosely]

"Alfred Borden." He gives a crooked smile. He doesn't suppose his stage identity will mean much anymore. "I guess I am. And I guess you are not?"
