Has someone been putting stupid in the water?

Seats on the sunshot are going fast. At this rate, I'm going to need another rocket. (As a quick clarification, if you earn a seat on the sunshot, you are also Today's Asshat by default.) This column is so loathsome, it even displaces Rudy Giuliani claiming he "spent as much time around Ground Zero as the rescue workers." I'll give you the title, and you can tell me if you agree: To save America, we need another 9/11. The article argues that we need to be united for America to survive in the face of Radical Islam, and the best way to do that is for us all to mourn again after more shit blows up and more people are killed.

Now I realize this article is at least somewhat satirical, but I don't care. As far as the state of political satire in the country, you've got The Onion, The Daily Show, Colbert, and a bunch of people who Don't Fucking Get It. Satire is Not Easy. And the worst part is, underneath the satire is a real yearning for the kind of moral clarity that only an unprovoked attack can bring. I could explain at great length why this man's views are naive and ridiculous, what a moron he is, and how offensive this article should be to the memory of those who died on 9/11 and continue to die in Iraq and Afghanistan, but well, it would be completely redundant.

Instead, I'll simply say this: Hey, asshat! If you're that desperate for another terrorist attack, I hope you're willing to put your money where your mouth is and volunteer to be the only victim.

asshats, sunshot, politics
