So I think I don't like the book I'm reading, but I can't seem to give up. This annoys me. The book in question is Tyranny of the Night by Glen Cook, who wrote the "Black Company" books. I like the "Black Company" books, even thought the plot never really makes lots of sense, because the characters are vivid and there's lots of asskicking. This book, on the other hand, started out as a laundry list of place names and hasn't really changed much. Yeah, there are characters, but they're either obvious cliches or impossible to tell apart. Some ass is kicked, but so you'd really care about it. And yet, I confess to having a vague interest in what happens. I'm already more than a third of the way through, so I'll probably finish, but I can't see much reason to attempt the sequels at this point.
